As soon as I get BoTw from the eshop I'm going to copy some of the files to my PC and see if I can root around the game data - NOT that I expect to get very far. But if someone can figure it out I'm betting the game audio for the switch version is at 44.1 or maybe even 48khz which will certainly be more useful for our libraries than 32khz tracks. But crediar's rip is great for the meantime. Here's hoping!

Everyone always says, "Oh, certainly Nintendo will have better audio quality on their next console!" But they've been doing 32khz for over 15 years now, since the GCN.
A scarce few Wii U games (like the new SSB) have 48kHz files but they're a rare animal.
Don't get your hopes up. Nintendo has always been very adamant about compression and saving space.

It reminds me of Metroid Prime's physical OST... some said at the release's time it was very sub par regarding sound compression.

It's such an odd sampling rate. Have to wonder how they came up with it to begin with. Surely whatever space savings they get are offset by the hassle of using something so unusual/nonstandard, but what do i know

It's like stereo, but isntead of two channels it's six. Movies, TV shows, and in this case, cutscenes, often use this audio format because it's cinematic.

My guess is anything with the filename 'demo'.

Indeed.

Channel 1 = Music

Channel 2 = SFX

Channel 3 = Music but reduce and SFX is more present (louder)

So just take channel 1...

eustassthekid
03-03-2017, 03:22 AM
It's pretty much how they got around sequencing.
For cutscenes channels 3&4 seem to be reserved for SFX
For everything else any additional channels beyond the normal 2 have extra instruments and stuff that I'd assume they mute/unmute as you explore the areas.
So it's all normal stereo music. (the SFX is mono)

But that's just my theory

TheSkeletonMan939
03-03-2017, 03:29 AM
That's not how surround sound mixing works.
Ch. 1 & 2 - Front Left & Right
Ch. 3 - Center
Ch. 4 - low bass/low frequency effects
C. 5 & 6 - Rear Left & Right

It's all designed to immerse you in an environment. No music happens to be mixed into the center channel, except in the end credits files.
It's not 'ch 1 and 2 are music only' or something like that. It's a MIX, not separated elements.

1&2 are main music
3&4 are accordion
5&6 are whistle thingy

Honestly, "It's better than nothing" and a very impressive piece of work but I prefer the original track from Nintendo, there is some variation which sounds very different with this one (especially drums, choirs and a few strings) and some background melody are missing.
As the author said, this is his interpretation, not a 1:1 work (https://soundcloud.com/cleffernotes/zelda-breath-of-the-wild-trailer-theme-orchestral-cover)

At the time of the SNES 32kHz was actually plenty widespread, DAT cassettes and most synthesizers used that frequency and CDs weren't widespread yet. Beats me why they picked it up again with GCN though.

I looked into it again, and my bad, some of the cutscene tracks actually are surround, while most seem to be quadraphonic. It's very confusing (at least for me).

So is anyone going to make a full remix with the transitions and all between phases and whatnot?

I'd love to do it myself, but unfortunately I'm not skilled enough in that area to do so myself and I just don't have the time to learn how to do it properly.

It seems to me on the town tracks there's a night time theme and a day theme and transitions leading into the two. That may make it a bit difficult.

I can't seem to find what I'd traditionally refer to as the Lon Lon Ranch theme for the stables in BotW on the rip for this thread? What file name is that under?

[I'm not a lurker by the way, had to start a new account for some reason haha!]

I can't find it either, or the Rito Village tracks. I'm not by any stretch of the imagination an expert on how Wii U gamerips work, but it's curious that there are tracks outright missing on the full rip of bfstm files. I really want the accordion version of Lon Lon Ranch that you can hear the one NPC playing at a particular stable.

I see it now. The mp3 rip that was on the first page didn't have that one or Rito Village. I see it in the streams though. Thanks!
