The Sweeney
As is common practice with many television shows, other than the specially-comissioned title theme, Harry South's unforgettable, rousing actioner, "ready-made" music was mostly used to provide incidental themes to the action. These came from specialist "Production Music" houses, the most well-known being De Wolfe, KPM (Keith Prowse Music), Chappell and Bruton The years 1971 to 1978 arguably represented the genre's most creative era (before competition and corporatism took over and strangled much artistic creativity), serendipitously co-inciding with production of The Sweeney itself.
In 2001 Sanctuary Records issued a Sweeney CD compilation with 25 tracks used in the show. As good as it was, it really only scratched the surface and sadly no further volumes have been forthcoming.
In many cases the incidental music was as good as that of the main title theme - indeed much of it is heard in other shows of the era, notably The Protectors, The Return of the Saint and The Famous Five.
This collection comprises 335 library tracks, as heard in order, from the four series and pilot movie 'Regan'. Often tracks are duplicated throughout episodes and series, I have used them as first heard in the shows, I hope this doesn't spoil the enjoyment.
I have sourced these over many years, but mainly from my own defunct post on The Sweeney Library music (I have had many requests to re-up these links), I was never happy with the original 'OST's' I did years ago, and have only just gone back this to fully sort out....what a nightmare.
These are sourced from CD, LP, websites etc, only one track - Gordan Grant's 'Vital Spiral' from De Wolfe LP 'Dangerous Connection' is a bit ropy, if anyone has a decent rip of the track, please upload to the thread or mail my inbox, that would make things complete, but it is on the soundtracks, included here.
As stated, I have not used repeat tracks (only when they have appeared in each series), and only other tracks missing are classical cues and one show (from series 1) that used exclusively Harry South composed cues....sadly not available.....
Link will be available till it expires....won't be a re-up, please don't share to other sites.
335 tracks - FLAC @ 3.80GB - custom front cover - fully tagged with artist & title
