I thought I would post it.

Jackie - Mica Levi
La La Land - Justin Hurwitz
Lion - Dustin O'Halloran & Hauschka
Moonlight - Nicholas Britell
Passengers - Thomas Newman

I personally think that Passengers or La La Land should win. Bu overall I'm not thrilled with this years nominations. I would rather have another list of scores.

No Arrival nomination, :( , Johann Johannsson did a remarkable job in this one. I was even counting with his presence on that list.

No Arrival nomination, :( , Johann Johannsson did a remarkable job in this one. In mine opinion :)

Arrival was disqualified from the competition earlier, because the score includes pre-used material by Max Richter:

So La La Land will win, because the other nominations don't make much sense, and the Golden Globes Awards kind've predicted that already, oh well.

The best track in Arrival wasn't even Johannson's work!

The fact how Gods of Egypt was not even at the very least nominated for best original score is so despicable, it's not even funny.

Not just noise, painful noise. The only music of Johannson's that I thought elevated the picture were the pizzicatos that were there the first or second time they entered the spaceship.
And I also like the Teaching Montage, if nothing else than because it's one of Johannson's few experiments that doesn't fail spectacularly.

It was a shit movie... no one pays attention to a shit movie, no matter what the score sounds like.

Yeah, I know it was. I just wish that it being a shit movie didn't undeservedly shame the score too, but unfortunately, it does.

There's a lot of great rather articulate moments coming from the strings I could highlight.

And "Rogue One", albeit just blatant Williams pastiche, I think is one of the best cues Giacchino's ever written. Just some thoughts, mind you.

Give it up with the fanboyism already. I like John Powell, James Newton Howard, but you don't see me going to such extremes.

Is there anything Giacchino has done you don't like?

I'm not going to extremes. It's also not like I forced myself to like or enjoy it, it was one of those things similar to how it worked out with The Force Awakens' score in how the more often you listen to it, the more you realize it's quite enjoyable. I'm assuming you haven't given Rogue One much time at all, but it's understandable as it's not that forthright in it's appeal some instances.

As a matter of fact, there has been some 'eh' material I've heard from him; mainly from some of his film scores. I'll admit a stale cue when I hear it. It's not blind faith. Rogue One isn't the best score ever composed, either.

We can have them, but sometimes, it can be a bit difficult to make the convincing gesture to describe why you like what you like, in a succinct way, and to even go to adequate detail. I struggle with that myself sometimes, but it can help if somebody's trying to push your position down. (not necessarily saying that's what's happening here)

At that, I know what you're saying. One shouldn't also have to explain why they like something, and instead just be taken as they like it period. I think it's all dependent on how you present your likes, though. Seems that way often enough.

Maybe La La Land should have been inadmissible to, on account it being a musical, which should not compete with background scores.

I haven't seen the movie, but that confused me too. How can a musical be compared to underscore? Certainly LLL was not nominated for its background music...

I really liked, especially the cue 20 "Louise Calls Chang". I found very peculiar the way he directed the production of the music, on how he got the tune for the movie. One member here in the forum posted this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsaRJ4j4xIo, sorry I don't remember who, but I found it really engaging :)

But overall in 2016, maybe the only good thing about this year, were the varieties of scores that we had :)

The exact same scores that I posted in Forza's "Best of 2016" thread.

1. Doctor Strange
2. Gods of Egypt
3. Arrival
4. The BFG
5. The Handmaiden

How's Newman's Passengers? I listened to the OST once, separately from the movie, which I haven't seen, but to me this nomination is just the latest gratuitous Oscar nod & lose for Newman. Or am I wrong?

Nomination: James Horner for "Aliens." Roll that 'Countdown' one more time.

For those who regret La La's eventual victory, may I recommend "Sound of Music" or "Singin in the Rain" as alternatives.

P.S. appreciated gentleman/womanly banter in this thread. Well done all.
