It's a shame that she passed away so shortly after working so hard to get in shape for the new Star Wars.
I feel bad for her mother Debbie Reynolds. Losing a child is so awful.

For anyone wondering how this affects the next Star Wars - I doubt it will. Fisher had completed all of her filming before her death.
I hope Disney has the taste to retire the character rather than blow her up in a plot-driven CGI explosion.

So....do what they did with Anton Yelchin in Star Trek Beyond on wards? That would seem ideal.

:( This is aweful.

When I saw her in TFA, she looked overweight for her age. Her history didn't help. She looked like she was struggling to be healthier.

I was still happy to see her in the movie.

I'm hoping they have Leia die peacefully off-screen then have her appear as a Force Ghost (either CGI or Archive Footage) at the end of Episode 9

A funny, straight-shooting gal who carried more than her fair share of monkeys on her back.

Think I'll watch The 'Burbs tonight.

True. But she put quite a few of those monkeys on there through her own actions.

I think you're right. That's the best to do with such a peaceful character and woman

Drugs. Alcohol. Debauchery. They're sorta like dominoes. So what sets the first one in motion? Being born into Hollywood "Royalty", the bipolar…, worldwide fame at the age of 21? All of the above?

Perhaps an inability to forecast the consequences of your actions. You'd think someone born into Hollywood would learn from the numerous bad examples strewn around her.

But some folks have to put their hands on stove before they'll believe it's hot.

And to be fair, Fisher did suffer from bi-polar disorder. It's very common for those afflicted to use drugs, alcohol or both to self medicate. Of course, she had access to medical resources many people lack.

Let's not forget the timeworn battlecry of every addict: "I'll never get hooked. It'll never happen to me."

Other than reading about it, unless you've personally known or casually socialized with Hollywood Brats™/Trust Fund Kids you can't appreciate the really warped bubble they live in and how few stopgaps exist on self-destructive behaviours.

The internet is teeming with wannabe know-it-alls who think they know everything. They throw out all kinds of pop psychology and armchair philosophy to justify their so-called superiority.

This forum has its fair share of people just like that, and it's always the same few names responsible.

That is all I have to say.

I've known a few kids from wealthy families. None were that disconnected from reality but they were certainly ignorant of the problems we mere mortals face on a daily basis.

I share your same sentiments as well, but it's clear that I don't have the skill to properly argue with these folk, nor do I think any attempt would do any good, seeing as they'll stay the same regardless. I'd hate for someone to think I'm with them, but I'm only really here because I have good friends (3 to be exact) that I have good conversations with. Besides that, I just attempt to be as neutral as possible, seeing as a good word or two can be spoken out of these other folks.

Maybe in episode IX they will let Han and Leia be together in peace ben will have lost both parents to the hatred of the dark side and realize what Snoke is truly like.

Fisher's mother, Debbie Reynolds, has just been rushed to the hospital... she had a stroke, which I would guess was caused by the complete stress of the past few days. :ashine:

Given her advanced age I wouldn't expect her to recover - at least not fully. But one can hope.

It has not been confirmed that she suffered a a stroke as yet. If that is what's happened, there are different types of stroke that range from no lasting symptoms through to fatal; let's hope if she has suffered a stroke, it's the former type. I'm not sure I can handle another celebrity passing this year.
