The Crash Bandicoot PS1 Soundtrack Collection is a collation of music from the Crash Bandicoot games that were released on the original PlayStation, to celebrate Crashs 20th birthday and the upcoming-at-the-time-of-upload release of the N. Sane Trilogy on PS4. The games included are Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back, Warped, Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash, as well as Josh Mancell's uploads of the pre-console mixes and demo versions.

FLAC LINK: https://mega.nz/#!UMkkmQzZ!JFW-QuSrcIW2sTzOQ_5jqaC0QPo6Jzm3yY-c_lzG4_E

UPDATE 5!: At the request of turtle09, I've gone ahead an uploaded a FLAC version of the Soundtrack, which also contains the Pre-Console Mixes in MP3 (since they are after all sourced from Soundcloud). As well, the Pre-Console mixes of Tomb Time, Mystery Caves, Toxic Waste and Bear It have been added!

Previous Updates:
UPDATE 4!: Two tracks I had missed from CTR have now been added. These are "Bounce Victory", for when Ripper Roo, Papu Papu or Penta Penguin win a Cup, and "Suave Victory", for when Pinstripe Pottoroo or Komodo Joe win a Cup. As before they have been recorded optically from my PS2 using an original copy of the game, as the Victory music stutters on PS3 due to slowdown during the podium cutscenes. The tracks have been placed after the Battle arena tracks and just before the Scrapbook track. Huge thanks to DaveMan1000 for pointing them out!

UPDATE 3!:
Four new Pre-Console Mixes have been added from Josh Mancell's Soundcloud! They include "Crash Bandicoot theme w. Beach Intro (Pre-Console Mix)", "Temple Ruins (Pre-Console Mix)", "The Lab (Pre-Console Mix)" and "Future Frenzy - Bonus Round (Pre-Console Mix)".
"Crash Bandicoot Theme (Demo #1)" has been re-numbered from 01a to 01b, to make room for "Crash Bandicoot Theme w. Beach Intro (Pre-Console Mix)". This works well as the Demo would become the track labelled "Into the Jungle".
"Sunset Vista" has been renamed to the more in-style "The Lost City". This is because Sunset Vista is actually the name of the second stone city ruins-themed level.
"Dr. Nitrus Brio (Pre-Console Mix)" has been renamed to "Brio Hologram (Pre-Console Mix)".
"The Komodo Bros. (Pre-Console Mix)" has been renamed to "The Komodo Brothers (Pre-Console Mix)".
UPDATE 2!:Thanks to the help of CabooseMiller101 and S.P.D. Gold Ranger, I was able to find out that the "Dr. Neo Cortex" track from Crash 3 actually has an entire instrument layer mute itself when the volume is turned up past 87%. Since both versions can be heard in the game, the first half of this track is the full version with all instrument layers at 87%, after which the track loops with the 100% volume version where the instrument track is missing.

UPDATE 1!: At the suggestion of 3DMan, I went in and recorded the five track variants exclusive to the Japanese version of the original Crash Bandicoot, which are new versions of "Tawna Bonus Round", "Koala Kong", "Pinstripe Pottoroo", "Dr. Nitrus Brio" and "Dr. Neo Cortex". These were recorded by playing the Japanese version of the game on ePSXe and recording the music via Stereo Mix, and as with the rest of Crash 1, these tracks are in mono.
The names for all of Josh Mancell's pre-console mixes and demos now have better capitalization, so for example "Tawna Bonus Round (pre-console mix)" is now "Tawna Bonus Round (Pre-Console Mix)".
I decided to move "Komodo Joe (Cut, Pre-Console Mix)" from Crash 2 to Crash 1, considering that it was composed for Crash Bandicoot and not Cortex Strikes Back.
"Coco Bandicoot (pre-console mix)" has been renamed to "Coco Hologram (Pre-Console Mix)".
There is now a numerical space between "Tournament Winner" and "Credits" in Crash Bash to open a slot for the "Uka Uka Banished" cutscene track.
Track List:
If a track is listed in red, that means that the track isn't in the Soundtrack, but has a spot open for it if I figure out how to rip cutscene music.

Process of making it within:
In all games the majority of the music has been taken from .psf rips available from http://psf.joshw.info/. While the creator of the Crash Bandicoot rip is unknown, the Crash 2, 3 and CTR rips were done by Matrixz in 2006, and the Crash Bash rip was done by manako of the demo version (which conveniently had all the tracks found in the full version). The .psfs were converted to .wav by foobar2000, edited in Sony Vegas and output into .flac, and were then converted to .mp3 by foobar. As well, all of the tracks are appropriately named (so "Snow Go - Death Trap" rather than "Ice (Special)") and ordered to match playing through the games (so the Death Trap tracks tend to appear later than their debut level theme tracks).

All Crash 1 tracks are in mono, with the exception of its only stereo track, "The Great Gate". The Crash 1 portion also contains the five tracks composed exclusively for the Japanese version of the game.

Several tracks were missing from the provided rips, but were able to be manually recorded from the games by playing them on a PS2 with the SFX turned to 0% and recorded via an optical cable. The exception is "Scrapbook", which was recorded via an emulator for the extended NTSC version, and edited so that the "Gem Stone Valley" music for the CTR portion only plays once instead of thrice.

The recorded tracks include:

N. Sanity Beach
Into the Jungle
Aku Aku Invincibility (Crash 1)
Tawna Bonus Round (Japanese Version)
Koala Kong (Japanese Version)
Pinstripe Pottoroo (Japanese Version)
Dr. Nitrus Brio (Japanese Version)
Dr. Neo Cortex (Japanese Version)
Aku Aku Invincibility (Crash 2/3)
Race Begin
Loser
Winner
Bandicoot Victory
Doctor Victory
Beast Victory
Kawaii Victory
Bounce Victory
Suave Victory
Scrapbook
Battle Winner
As well, "Dr. Neo Cortex" from Crash 3 is half a .psf rip and half a recording. This is because at 88% volume and above, one of the instrument layers for this track is muted. Since both versions can be heard in the game, the first half of this track is the full version at 87% with all instrument layers, after which the track loops with the 100% volume .psf version.

Several tracks however could not be recorded as almost all of them are part of cutscenes and were not included in the rips (although the track numbering intentionally has gaps in them so that the tracks can be added at a later date). These tracks are:

Cortex Hologram
Brio Hologram
Coco Hologram
Uka Uka Confrontation
Aku Aku Exposition
Final Lap
Opening Titles
Let the Games Begin
Pre-Boss Pep Talk
Uka Uka Banished
As a final extra bonus, the pre-console mixes and demo tracks released by Josh Mancell on his Soundcloud are also included, and such that, if you wish, they'll be placed immediately after their equivalent tracks. The pre-console mixes are the versions made before the audio was mixed to what the PS1 was capable of, and several of them can be heard in CTRs "Scrapbook" track.

I'm liking what I see, but there's three things I'd like to bring up.

-There's no loop for the music?
-Is this only MP3? No FLAC version at all?
-Crash Bandicoot (1996) is missing those exclusive Japanese Version tunes.

I welcome critique! Pokes holes in my work and I get to explain my methodology.

-There's no loop for the music?
No, I generally don't like that sort of thing as it takes up space I could use for something else, and only do it for the very short tracks that loop, like Crash Bash's Main Menu. Personally, if I want to listen to a track again I hit the Previous button.

-Is this only MP3? No FLAC version at all?
I do have a FLAC version (I exported to FLAC before using foobar to create the MP3s), but I wasn't sure if folks were interested considering that foobar can reduce the MIDI music of the games down to really tiny file sizes. Such that I wondered what the benefit was for Crash's music, considering it is so basic from an instrument sound-complexity perspective. And from personal preference again, I prefer MP3 because anything can play that format.

-Crash Bandicoot (1996) is missing those exclusive Japanese Version tunes.
I know! I have the Brio pre-console mix from Mancell's Soundcloud, but I don't know if there's a .psf rip of the Japanese version lying around.

:this: I'd love a complete FLAC version with all of this mixed in.
Well at the very least I do intend to do a revision of the Soundtrack with the Japanese Crash 1 tracks and the cutscene tracks from 3, CTR and Bash. I think I'll need to do that thing where you can grab music that's been "loaded in" via an emulator or something like that, but I have no idea how to do that sort of thing.

Hmm, since there's demand for a FLAC version, maybe it's something I could do for that one?

Thanks. In the Crash Bash music folder, I noticed that there are some missing tracks. And something is off with the Melt Panic tune.
There are gaps in all the Soundtracks except the original Crash to act as placeholders so that (hopefully, some day) I can put in the missing tracks. Almost all of them are cutscene tracks like Coco Hologram, although one is Final Lap from CTR which I didn't want to include because the normal track music cuts in too soon so the edit would have been really sloppy.

As for Melt Panic, is there any particular example you can point to as to what it's supposed to sound like? My suspicion is that there's a slight difference between the US and EU versions (the .psf files I used were from the EU versions).

In Melt Panic, the volume is inconsistent. It gets soft on some points.

I think it should be 75%, because that's the default volume (I think) and when I left it at that level, the Cortex theme has the missing riffs.

I've played the game at 75% before and I've never noticed that. You sure it isn't because of mono/stereo options?

I don't know if it's my TV or what, but that's the only volume where I hear those missing riffs. I always have the game audio on stereo when I play the game, so... Like I said, that's just how it works for me. I don't know if it's the same for anyone else.

Okay, played though the track again and now I see what you mean. Looks like this is an error with the original .psf rip file I have of the track! I'm rather busy atm with work so I'll try and record a new version of it from the game itself on Christmas Eve tomorrow.

Heh, so I totally edited the post afterwards when I realized that you were in fact correct. For the record, I previously asked what region his game was, thinking that it was a regional difference.

As it turns out, what I think is happening here is that Matrixz, who did these rips in 2006, must have forgotten one of the instrument layers here, thus resulting in the missing "Crash 2" boss notes, since .psf ripping asks you to include all of the instrument layers individually to make it happen.

Doing the research by playing the game itself, I was actually able to hear the Cortex Theme riffs as high as 87%. At 89%, the notes are barely audible, and at 90%, they're muted. It isn't isolated either; I got this when playing it on PS3 emulation as well as on PS2. So the version that's in the soundtrack now up is the 87% volume music recorded from a PS2 that's been amped up to the same volume as the .psf rip, to retain volume consistency.

EDIT: And now it's uploaded! https://mega.nz/#!UIlG3R4b!NwdwPU4uIFK-yX3_rg1t1ZtsdraIe_9HKdVikP-f6Oc

Of all the Crash Bandicoot music collections out there (there's a lot), this one is definitely the best.

All five games are at maximum quality, nothing suffers from static or reduced volume and probably the only thing this one has that none of the many hundred do, a full Crash 3 Cortex theme in all it's glory.

Thanks a bunch for this. I'll be looking out for the cutscene music once it's be ripped.

Also, there are 2 more tracks from CTR that have been missed:

Nice! Thank you very much for sharing this music in such great quality. This will certainly tempt our pallets for the N-Sane Trilogy.

As for the cutscene music, I would imagine that only by contacting Josh Mancell or Steve Duckworth would we be able to hear them unfettered with faint sounds or voices. It's too bad; I like the cutscene music all throughout the Crash series. Still, it is what it is. This has been a lot of hard work for you and it is definitely appreciated.

As a note, Josh Mancell's Pre-Console Mixes are in MP3, as they are sourced from Soundcloud.

Hey guys! Thought you'd might like to know that, yes, I will be doing a Soundtrack for the N. Sane Trilogy (after I beat it, of course). I'll probably make a new thread for it, but I figured you'd want to know!

In other news, the Soundtrack now contains the Pre-Console Mixes for Toxic Waste and Bear It!

Hey KBABZ, thanks for the collection, I was wondering why there are certain gaps between track numbers? Like in CB3 Warped? Are you missing tracks from all the games?

Yeah, those would be the cutscene tracks. Apparently it's possible to extract them somehow, but I have no idea how to do that.

Yep. Often the names were bad (like "Ice (Bonus)"), the audio quality would vary greatly, one Soundtrack I found of Crash 2 cut the first half-second off, another had instruments missing from the Toad Village Bonus Round music, etc...

Hey guys! I've just done a minor but significant update to the Soundtrack! I was able to find the original images used for the covers for Crash 3 and CTR, as well as the key art for Crash 1 (which is very similar to the cover art) and a great version of the Crash 2 cover. I've used them to craft brand new covers that are as good as they can be (no off-colour cover scans!). In addition to that however I found the images used for the individual N. Sane versions of each game, all three based on the covers. I composited and cropped both covers so that they match each other!

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

The updated version of the FLAC and MP3 soundtracks are still being uploaded, but for those of you who are already up to date (which you should be if you have the Tomb Time and Bear It Pre-Console Mixes), here are the images for you to apply yourselves!

It goes without saying that Bash's album art remains the same, but that one was pretty good anyway.

Yeah! There's an official but incomplete Soundtrack up on Spotify, which I'll utilize since it has clean intros for some Bonus Rounds and Gem path tracks because those have fade ins.

The noise crash makes when he takes damage and loses Aku Aku,
His trademark "Whoa!" and Coco's as well are just a couple to name....
Also Pinstripe Potoroo's laugh when he's shooting his tommy gun in the opeing scene for his boss battle

Apparently the cutscene music across all the PS1 games is rippable, but nobody anywhere has managed to figure out how to do it.

Thanks a bunch.

I was not aware of just how much the samples were compressed for Crash 1, but I guess Naughty Dog HAD to make some mistakes early on in SOME area (they were one of the few developers to deliver PAL ports that ran at same speed, so nearly flawless).

Also, there was 0 need to include the pre-console mixes, since one can just download them independently, with this site:
https://scdownloader.net/
(although I am not sure it allows for downloads of other, lossless formats people sometimes upload there)

I decided to include the pre-console mixes for two reasons. First, preservation; there's no guarantee that Josh will keep them up forever, and they're an important part of Crash history. The second is presentation; in this OST you get proper tags and album art, and the tracks are numbered such that if you drop them into their original folders, they'll appear right after the track from the final game, which is handy if you want to have a comparison, or replace the original with the pre-console mix outright.

Any chance you can separate these into individual files, one for each game and one for the pre-console version?

Just in case one of them gets an update, we don't have to re-download the whole thing to get the 1-3 tracks added in to a specific game.

In the original PS1 game, it's the exact same as his boss theme. In the N. Sane Trilogy, the hologram version of the song is missing a bunch of instruments on purpose to make it sound more ambient, but that version of the song is also in the game files separately, as the recent rip showed. Hope this helps!

Wow, even the Japanese-exclusive tracks? That sounds like a good idea, I haven't heard any of them in good quality.

Is it possible that you could do a high-quality FLAC rip of Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex? It's never been done to my knowledge and I think the music is just as strong as the originals.
