This is a rip of a rare Film Music Society album from my own collection, fulfilling a request from totoro2totoro here:

If it wasn't thanks to him, I probably wouldn't be posting this because it didn't occur to me that it had never been shared here before. I suppose it is perhaps the rarest commercial Miklos Rozsa score, limited to very few copies. Unfortunate since it is lovely and important music, but I suspect the reason it hasn't had wider exposure is frankly the sound quality. It is from 1942 and frankly not that great. Don't expect it to sound as good as Kritzerland's release of The Secret Love of Martha Ivers, or Intrada's recent releases of other 40s Rozsa scores. Those all sound amazing for the decade but The Jungle Book is just passable.

Sadly I don't have a scanner to include the substantial booklet. Perhaps someone else who has this can upload that. Unfortunately I cannot even include a cover because the best I could find online was 300x300 and didn't look very good. EDIT: Fortunately we have a wonderful custom cover thanks to feedthecats on page 5, which is better than the original!

There's actually a nice story in R�zsa's autobiography about that recording: R�zsa liked Sabu a great deal, and he said he was fine in the recording. He did have a problem with one word: "Mother!". R�zsa tried his best to coax an emotional response from Sabu, but he spat out the word without feeling every time. R�zsa relates that that was because Sabu had been an orphan (he was discovered by a film producer while working an an elephant boy), he had no emotional connection with having a mother.
