Absolutely fabulous. Bloc Party are excellent. I didn't realise they were playing in the States already.

I think I'm going nuts but I don't even dislike Bloc Party (can't say I'm like, into them or anything though.) I'm afraid for my sanity, next thing you know I'm going to be wearing girl pants and a white belt.

Anyway, how much are the tickets? And is it just them, or do you have to see them opening for some shit band? Last I heard Eisley was going on tour with Newfound Glory, and I don't want to have anything to do with that.

Seriously though dude... you're smart enough to post this in the music forum, aren't you? ;D

Darth Pepper

April 1st I'm seeing Bloc Party, and April 4th I'm seeing Eisley.

Yeah Eisley is playing at a New Found Glory concert which kind of blows, the tickets were about $19.

I'm stoked about Bloc Party though; I fucking love them at the moment. I was surprised that they were coming to my town, and they're performing at a shit run down concert hall place. Itll probably get crazy. I want to hug Kele.

I didn't think a FAO belonged in the music section. : /

next thing you know I'm going to be wearing girl pants and a white belt.

Tight girly pants feel retro. Get the stretchy type.

I don't know why they would tour with NFG though. :(

edit: Alice you're a trend starter, imo.

TK
03-12-2005, 01:25 AM
Yeah, the NFG thing makes no sense whatsoever. I'd probably consider seeing them if not for that, but also I am strongly opposed to paying more than $10 for a show. Though I have been known to make exceptions for shows I REALLY want to go to.

Maybe if they do another tour with a more reasonable band I'll go. I can't stomach the thought of actually going to an NFG-headlined show. You should let us know how the show is, anyway. I'm curious as to whether they would stick around and talk to the fans afterwards.

And Bloc Party played at a place I go to in Philli semi-frequently, and I thought about going, because what I've heard of them so far has been pretty catchy, but I don't think it would've been worth it.

Also, it is really nice to finally have a thread in here where people are saying more than "lol metallica rox"

Figured I'd give this Eisley band a listen on their website player thinger; see what all the fuss is about. I really liked 'Golly Sandra' - reminded me of the country-leaning Weakerthans songs, plus it has a really cool vocal melody. 'Lost at Sea' was okay. 'Telescope Eyes' was meh, but also okay by the 2nd listen.

So yeah, they're not bad!

(Also, GreyMenace, I like your sig. One of my favourite songs.)

Graham: So how did you all end up on a tour with New Found Glory and Reggie and the Full Effect? I mean they dont strike me as obvious tour mates for you all.

Sherri: Yeah, they dont really strike me as that either, but I dont knowtheir band [note: New Found Glory]we havent even met them actually yet, I guess well meet them next week when we start the tour. They just are like big big supporters of our band, and I guess they begged our label to let us go on tour with them. Theyve been really pushing us. They sent an email out to all their fans, really pushing our album. So they have been really behind us, so we thought it would be cool. Its going to be a lot of shows and a lot of kids

Ah, the links in both Alice and crystal swords sigs worked. I was just going to the videos through eisley.com before.

Eisley reminds me a lot of some other band. I'll probably never figure out who, I listen to too many girl singers/bands.

But yeah. They're alright. There's nothing that I disliked about them, but nothing that really grabbed me.

I listen to music like this a lot though, so maybe they'll grow on me if I sneak a few songs onto my playlist.

I thought some of the other songs on their site were better then Marvelous Things though, personally. :)

Pat
03-21-2005, 05:51 PM
At first listen, they actually reminded me a little of the Cranberries. At least vocally.

The more I compare both bands, though, the more I realize that they don't really sound alike at all.

mrmonkeyman: Eisley and Bloc Party are the new hip bands to like. Give it a month or two and everyone'll forget about them.

Thanks for your contribution mrmonkeyman.

Not really. Bloc Party has actually been around for a couple of years, and it's just now that their music is being heard. So they're not new. And I would consider myself very lucky if I found someone who knew Bloc Party in a 10 mile radius, especially here in the states. As for Eisley, I myself didn't know who they were until Alice introduced me to them a while back. I don't see how these two bands are the "It" bands at the moment. I can't account for the UK, but I know that they're underrated, and under exposed here in the states. I highly doubt these bands will die out within the next couple of months. Most likely the opposite will happen, because they are in fact very talented, and original.

Also out of curiosity have you even listened to any of their songs? Or are you just making a clich statement toured this, because a few of us enjoy this music?

03-21-2005, 07:21 PM

4-5 people with decent taste in music, discover an "indy" band through a FF Forum, then become fans. You seem to use that term (bandwagon) lightly.

Eisley are completely unknown over here. Not really a fan, but I would hardly call them hip.

Eh, I dunno about these new indie bands. The only of them who I really liked, and liked a lot, were Franz, basically because I'm a big fan of Gang of Four anyways. I guess Bloc Party et al seems kind of trendy-ish to me, but it could be that I'm not really into them, more than anything.

Darth Pepper

Eisley was a fucking blast. I didn't meet them (oh well). But I met other people, a lot of Jesus fans were there. I loved it. Good Times. Also there were a lot of fucking weird people, and I was one of the only black kids there. : (

I didn't mean hip as in it's hip to like them, I mean like they're hip kids. Hip in the good sense.

Bigfoot

I can't really get into Bloc Party either. I find the vocals pretty dull in most of the songs I've heard. They aren't bad, just meh.

But in other news, Eisley seems to gradually grow on me like a HIP FUNGUS. I think they're better once you get to learn the melodies and lyrics.

TK
04-14-2005, 08:36 AM
"Straight edge" has taken on a broader meaning, but the original sense of the term (and one that still exists quite widely) was a hardcore scene made up of people who all shunned those things, and also listened to hardcore. It was sort of inspired by the 80s hardcore band Minor Threat (incidentally, one of the best bands ever!), as the whole no drinking/smoking/getting high/fucking thing was a big theme in their music, and specifically by one of their most popular and well known songs which was actually called Straight Edge, and that's what coined the term. Ian MacKaye didn't write it with the intention of coining a term or setting off a subsubculture (and in fact he hates it when people think of him as the guy who started straight edge, he doesn't really want anything to do with it) but for better or for worse he did it. Personally I think straight edge is pretty cool, even though a lot of kids who are into it are real assholes who think anybody who smokes, drinks, gets high, or fucks is inferior.

Having Xs tatooed onto the backs of your hands is a symbol of being a straight edger. It's cool looking, but kind of silly.
