Hey everyone, I'm sure this has been posted on many times, but I need help. My game is crashing to desktop during the movie sequence on disk 1 where Squall and Rinoa are dancing. My pc is a P3, 933 MHz, 128 mb Ram, with a GeForce4 MX 440. I've downloaded and installed the patches and they are not working for me. Please, can somebody help!!!!!

I've tried the search, could not find anything. On a side note, I have downloaded a batch of saved game files one of whice is right at the final battle, and my pc will allow the huge ending movie to play without skipping at all... which leads me to believe that maybe just my disk 1 has a bug possibly?

My pc doesn't crash but the display is all weird, I get a lot of lines crossing the screen.
It doesn't bother me though.

As i've experience. I cannot go through this scene because evrytime i climb up the invicible wall of esthar my game crashes. i try already all methods i see in all sites but none is working so far. Thats why i pass my save file for whoever want to help me pass through these scene and save again and pass back to me. I will appreciate your help. Thanks

Edit: Okay, done. I played you up to the next save point. Hopefully that'll be enough to get you going from there. Oh, and because of the Laguna sequence, you may want to check your junctions.

Not again. after Laguna and ellone reunited in O Lab it shud suppose to go back squall scene right? but mine just exit the game without any error or anything. anyone exprience this kind of problem?

I don't know-- I'm beginning to suspect that your disc is glitched somehow. You haven't had any other problems with crashes up until this point in the game?

Yeah, thats what i suspect also. How am i suppose to continue this game if its like this. I still searching and asking my friends if they have a copy of disk in in FF8. But in your side when you play the game no problem right? If its ok can you help me again one last time just to pass the scene after laguna talk to ellone and go to control squall again, i want to continue until i found or buy a new disk for this. If your busy then its ok i have to wait until i found a new disk for this.

I am willing to do it one more time, but only one more time. If you're lucky, perhaps everything past that point won't trigger any problems. If not, then it seems you'll have just have to get another disc because beyond a certain point it just becomes pointless for me to keep playing the game for you.

Haay! im so excited to fight Sorceress Adel in the end i cannot go through Disk 4 so disappointing. I cannot finish this game. I dont know already what is wrong with this. Could it be my Disk 4? or my Installet Disk? :(

I just don't know. How did you end up getting through Disc 3?

After the last save file you pass to me. All are working fin already until i finish Disc 3 and ask for disk 4. Then when i plug in Disk 4 it will run then suddenly the application will automatically will close. This is the same as what happen first in Disc 3 error i send the first time. I dont know whats wrong with this. :)

Where specifically is it crashing? During an FMV?

It crashes after i insert disc 4 and press X to start reading in disc 4 the screen will change and then suddenly close and it goes back to my desktop screen. :(

Don't know. I don't think I can even help you with that one by playing a savefile, seeing as it won't even read the disc. It seems to me that you have two options-- do a torrent (as has been said, it's not illegal since you own a copy of the game) or find a way to get a replacement disc.

Uhm sorry to bump this post, yet again...But could you possible play my chars through the esthar part aswell?

I dont own a ps anymore so i bought the game but i get the crash at the same place as the other guy, climbing the ladder....

now i could use his save if you dont want to/have time but he is like 20-25 levels ahead of me and has shitloads of stuff i dont have, and it would feel like cheating myself D:

Zup bro!! What do you think is the problem on that disk 3 crashing? Maybe you have some suggestions on how to fix it so I can fix it myself. Anyways still waiting for you to play my saved game. Thanks!

The only thing that I can think of is that your disc is either dirty or corrupt. If it's dirty, then just try cleaning it. If there's some sort of structural corruption, though, then the problem might not be resolvable, short of getting a new disc.

Thanks for reminding me, though. I'm good to go, now, so I should be able to get that for you sometime later this evening. I'll post here again once it's ready.

Sorry, where exactly is it you're crashing at? You said you were going to Esthar, but in the save file that I got, you haven't even completed the Laguna sequence yet. Are you sure you went where you needed to? You need to go the infirmary and try to talk to Rinoa.

Okay, I played you up to the next save point. Hopefully everything's good to go from here. If not, I'm afraid you'll need to consider the possibility that your disc is corrupt and you need to get a new one.

I'm having the save problem like of the others, it crashes on the Laguna and Ellone part. Is it really a disc problem? Man been wanting to finish the game.

It sounds to me like it really is a disc problem. I can't think of any other reason if it's been working just fine up to this point. Have you tried cleaning it? Have you examined it closely for imperfections or scratches?

to be honest with you it's just a download from a torrent, just a copy i don't own any discs

Well, there you go then. Buy the game if you really care about it. It's not that expensive.

ok i already fixed this problem all you have to do is download it again at (link removed)

but you dont really need to install all of it all you have to do is get this and turn it into ISO:

for disc 3:

DISK3
DISK3.PAK
FIELD2.FS
FIELD.FI
FIELD.FL
FIELD.FS

same as disc 4 just change the disk3 and disk3.pak to disk4 and disk4.pak and convert all of them to ISO

then start the last save point where you should climb the ladder without crashing the game hope this helps

I didn't know it was causing the game to crash but I remember saying somewhere in here way back when about changing the files for certain discs. I was lucky though because the torrent I got has all the ISOs already so it saved me the trouble.

And just so you know, you don't post links to sites where you can download something illegally.

I'm afraid Agent 0042 is no longer a part of this forum sadly (he hasn't logged in for a good two years now), so he won't be able to answer your question.

Rather than trying to get someone to play past the crash in question, a better way would be to find the cause of the issue and try and fix it. A good place to start would be to look on the Qhimm modding community (http://www.qhimm.com/), as even though they're more into modding and fixing issues with the FFVII PC version, they do also deal in problem solving with FFVIII PC.

Hopefully this has helped.

I, too, have played it on the playstation ALOT. But since I got the PC boxed version and gave that a play-through I have to admit; it changes the whole experience for some reason..
I liked it way better, and would recommend anyone ^^
