recently i've been really into the idea of creating an RPG and was just wondering if anyone knows of any good software to do it. i've heard of the RPG maker games for PS1+2 but they aren't available in europe.
also, it would be cool if people could post links to any games they made.

An idea would be to use RPG Maker 2000 for the PC, try searching www.winsite.com for it. You'll need the file, the RTP and possibly the font patch. I would give you the 2003 and XP versions, but it's still illegal to do so.......

i downloaded it last week. it takes a while to get going but you can make some impressive games.

i'm trying to make a not so RPG-ish game with it at the moment. sort of like broken sword, with the emphasis on puzzles and very little combat. its harder to do but its coming along.

I remember when RPG maker first came out for PS1. It was awsome, I made an RPG that was like Lufia 2 but better. I added as much detail as I could. Too bad I dont have it anymore.

I tried hard to make a great RPG with RPG maker, but all i achieved was a load of swearing sprites. Damn... I thought i was gonna be the next Kojima aswell...

On PS1 me and Jamie(who's not posted since the stone age) made RPGs parodying each other's RPGs.

Ive played both. There hard to figure out

RPG Maker is a pretty useful tool.. but its kinda hard to get used to..

You can spend hours making your own games and then get your friends to play em which is pretty cool :-)

Making anything remotely worthwhile in an RPG Maker program will take you months of focused effort. I'd encourage you to try it out, but good luck, seriously. The number of started projects in that thing that actually develop into anything decent is probably close to 1%.

RPG maker is definatly cool, but you need to get some good sprites for it though, cos the sones you get with it are pretty shitty! there are some sites that have final fantasy sprites, backgrounds, characters e.t.c! i love the FFIV ones!

Try taking a look on RPGinfinity, thats usually the best site. And Lexie's right, not many RPG Maker games do turn into a good internet published games. I'm doing 2 or 3 at the moment, one called LinaD or Lost in a Dream, another called Mythical, and a sequel to Linad (Which hasn't been released yet itself) called Kain's Legacy. I'm only about 3% done of what I want though. It takes months of planning and prep before you even open RPG Maker. Getting (or creating in my case) all the sprites and tilesets, it takes ages. If you do ever want a tileset or something making for RPG Maker 2K/2K3/XP (PC Versions) just send me a PM and I'll try and get round to it in between everything else
