Sigh... what is happening to Tanaka & friends recently? Such good music always crippled by fake wind players. First Endride and now this, I at least hoped some orchestra would be involved but this is such a fall from grace in comparison to how One Piece started. You would expect that for a major new chapter of the series they would go the extra mile... but the show is such a low-quality cashcow at this point they probably didn't wan't to spend more effort than the bare minimum. The music does it's job, Tanaka, Hamaguchi & Inai try their best and even reprise the familiar themes but low-budget strings mixed with fake synth brass & winds (especially the bones!!!) do it no justice whatsoever. What a let-down. But at least Inai's parts sound convincing enough.

Can you speak of individual tracks you feel like are disappointing and give more elaborate criticism on them? I am really curious of more specific things you have to say about them, as I've listened to quite a bit of the OST and I really enjoy it overall so far.

Oh I enjoy it too. Infact what I was talking about is not the "composition" but rather the "sound" of it. Infact the quality of the music as written is on par with everything else in One Piece. But for my musician's ear there's a major quality drop of the music when it is performed by a sampler/synth sounds and not by a real orchestra because a real human being, experienced playing an instrument, will always triumph over computer generated sounds, although they are becoming more and more convincing each day. The problem with this one is also the mix of real string players with synth brass (Horns, Trombones, Trumpets) that just clash and don't feel harmonic to me. There's just no live and vigor to them and if you listen to them live and on a billion orchestral recordings, especially on Tanaka's other works, the trombones here are just painful to listen too.

Overall Inai's tracks are more convincing because the brass writing is to the strength of the samples, like in "Reborn,..." but Tanaka is a virtuoso and it's just instantly noticable and sad beyond belief, his music would be so amazing with a real ensemble, especially "To the New World" or "Bonds of three brothers". But it's especially noticable when Luffy's theme is involved. In the very first score for the series Luffy's theme was a playful adventurous piece played by a real veteran trumpet player who brought life and character to the music. A similar musical moment happens in "Teaching of the main title - Rayleigh" or "Luffy, to victory" and it just feels flat, thin and liveless in comparison which is not what the written music is going for. If this was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra I would praise this score to the moon and back. But as it stands it's a tragedy that such good music on paper is not up to the standard of One Piece or Tanaka/Hamaguchi/Inai's work as a whole.

You just distilled very accurately every single thought i have about One Piece's symphonic decline through time.

Also is there any way to put this OST into Mega? My antivirus keeps blocking the download link, even if i deactivate it :\
