NOTE TO MODERATORS: I previously posted this on the general gaming section but thought it may be better off General Discussion, which board is correct?

Hi,

Despite how RPG is my favourite computer game genre, I have never played one of the FFs, this I wish to end.

I'm unsure to which FF to start with, it seems logical to start with FFI but maybe the time I spend playing that game would be best playing the better games then if I have time after I've completed the better games I would play the not so good games, any suggestions?

Also, I only have an X-Box and this computer and although I know ROMS are available for most FF games in English upto and including FFVI I do not like playing games on my PC (doesn't feel the same as playing a console, plus my PC is pretty slow, not like this would be a problem for emulating FF1-6), so I think I'd have to buy a games console, which one as to buy I'm undecided.

PS2 - Allows me to play all FFs except FFIII, also allows me to play other games I enjoy like MGS.

SNES - Allows me to play FFI - FFIV (excluding FFIII, since I only want to play English games)

Nintendo DS - Allows me to play FFIII.

The problem with PS2 and Nintendo DS is that they are both moderately expensive, the problem with SNES is that the games are no longer in production and, from what it looks like, the cartridges (PAL) are difficult to find (and therefore expensive when you do find them) which may amount to the price of a PS2.

So this implies I should be buying a PS2 if any, BUT I have reservations about buying a PS2 because it would seem wasteful when PS3 is coming out sometime next year and I cannot wait 1 year until I can play a good RPG, assumingly, like FF.

So what are your opinions to what console I should buy.

Also, since FFIII is being released in English for Nintendo DS I assume it will be ported to a ROM soon? (Although I have stated I do not like playing ROMS I would make an exception if it was my only option).

Thanks in Advance
TomX

PS. Thanks for reading this post, it was longer than expected.

Don't buy a system just for FF games, they really aren't that great.

So this should really be in General FF. ;\

I'd recommend you buy a PS2, just because of all the games you can buy for it other than FF. =\

Yeah, just go with a PS2. And don't listen to that bitch Crayzieman, Final Fantasy is a terrific series. It has a few duds in it like any series but by and large it's pretty great.

The really early Final Fantasies (1-3) are good, but not nearly as good as they got from 4 on, and you can play pretty much all of them from 4 on on a PS2, what with the collections that Square has released. So go with that, because that's the system that there are the most games for anyway.

And yeah, I'm gonna move this to General FF.

1,2,3,4, and 5 you can download as Super Nintendo roms for your emulator and play them on PC.

6,7,8, and 9 you can play on your PSX or PSone.

10, 10-2 (and soon 12) you will be able to experience on your PS2.

11 you can only play online with ADSL connection.

I recommend you get a PS2 because it is backwards compatible and can play FF games 6,7,8,9,10,10-2 (and soon 12)

If you then want to experience the classic earlier titles, you can download an emulator and the necessary roms very easily.

An emulator is only worth getting just to play Chrono Trigger in my opinion.
