so, there's a fav. drummer and fav. guitarist thread, so why not bassist?

my personal faves are Cliff Burton, Les Claypool, and Geezer Butler.

Cliff was very talented but Jason makes the show great. I like Steve Harris and John Myung as well.

Cliff Burton was one of the best Bassists ever.. Jason Newstead doesn't even come close.

Of course Les Claypool.. couldn't have a bassist list without him. Or Flea.. they're both really good.

I dunno why but I have a thing for female bassists <3 D'arcy Wretzky and Paz Lenchantin.

Can't forget Rhonda Smith and Bootsie Collins for holdin' it down on the funk side of things.

Ha, figures that my first post in an FF forum would be to talk about bass players :-p

Anyway...Cliff Burton! My fav ever. Flea, Les, and Geddy are up there too, but there's nobody quite like Cliff.

RIP

The Muse bassist, though I alsways forget his name, damn him. I think it's Chris Wolstenholme, or something...either way, he kicks serious anus!

Correction, he made the show great. He quit the band. Rob Trujillo is the new bassist.

And as much as I hate the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flea is clearly the best bassist of all time. I can't stand the music, but he is without a doubt the best there has ever been.

I know, I hate that new guy. Imo he doesn't fit Metallica at all. Flea is pathetic compared to John Myung from Dream Theater.

flea plays different. dont know..if john Myung can play like flea. just because john myung plays som heavie shit..doesnt mean flea cant play like that. and why cant ppl just get it?...robert trujilo is going to stay in metallica..for a loooong time. and what makes him bad?..metallica said themself they couldnt have choosen some one else..cause rob is just what they needed. so respect that

Nope. Not gonna do it. No matter how they regard the guy, I think Trujillo was an awful choice and I'm not gonna stop saying so just because the band is happy.

i actually had the privilege to see Metallica last autumn, and i have to admit that rob, though definitely no Newsted (and certainly no Cliff), was one of the best, if not the best, choice of bassists for not having to make up original stuff. I also saw him (Trujilo) substitute for Black Label Society on a live DVD, and he was mighty badass. The thing that i admired most about him was his ability to keep the crowd going, especially for Metallica. In Met's concert, when they played Disposable Heroes, Rob was extremely intense, and i don't think that Metallica could have found any better free bass players that played the same style and didn't have to make original stuff (he technically joined the band after St. Anger's tracks were actually recorded with the producer Bob Rock playing the bass). just my two cents.

Mani from the Stone Roses/Primal Scream is a better bassist than Flea, imo. =/ He's just pretty fucking incredible, really.

Hey last I checked it's about your favorite bassist, not the "best" one.

Being some bass player virtuoso doesn't mean jack shit if your band sucks!

DIMEBAG DAROLLFirst of all, you spelled his name wrong. Secondly, he didn't play bass. The bassist for Pantera is named Rex. Dimebag played guitar. RIP.

Yes, but the conversation inevitably turns in that direction, thus I must quash the ill-conceived notions of cretins.

I mean, "opinions", lol what.

When comparing Rob and Jason, Rob doesn't fit Metallica's image at all (he should be in Korn or smth)
