I don't see any similarities between Zidane and Cloud. There are more between Squall and Cloud.

The only thing I see similar about them is their unclear past. Zidane is outgoing and warm hearted, Cloud is an introvert, and cold hearted. They have opposite personalities, but I guess they have similar pasts. ;)

lets not forget how Aeris's death changed cloud, it changed him for the better right?

The stories follow a rough script. They have to it's the gemre. It's hardly as bad as a Steven King novel but it's all mostly the same. Atfer the story develops it obviously changes, but the start is mostly the same.

And the point about him growing up being called a loser...he grew up until he was 14 in Niebelheim. With Tifa. And FOUR other kids.
