I know we are not supposed to advertise stuff like that but I figured if we kept it all on one thread it isn't so bad! So...I'm curious if anyone is in a band or is a solo performer and has any songs online they would like to share with the rest of us! Post your links here...

i play drums in a band. we have like 4 original songs, but we cover like crazy. there's also a guitarist and an awesome bassist, too. We've made some decent money, too, believe it or not, but we're obviously not professional.

My drumset:

Sonor Force 3003 w/o that extra yellow snare.

Guitar:

Gibson Les Paul 1963 Reissue

Bass Guitar:

For the record, "advertising" your own music in this forum is allowed, provided that you are not just some one-stop spammer. i.e., a person who normally posts on the board and discusses music saying, "hey, here's my band's web site" or "hey, here's where I have my music posted" is not only okay, but great! What's not okay is people signing up for the sole purpose of advertising.

I play guitar and write a LOT of songs. I have a full set list, and I'm trying really hard to put together a band. My friend Robin is going to learn to play bass soon, hopefully (it's okay because we're going to be a punk band), but I still have no idea where to find a drummer. I have most of the necessary equipment though, it should just be a matter of pulling everything together.

I'm also in the process of putting together some personal recordings of my music with me doing everythingguitar, bass, and vox, and I'm using a freeware drum machine for the drums. I'll be sure to post them here when they're finished.

<a href=http://www.musik-schmidt.de/osc-schmidt/catalog/images/Danelectro-Hodad-Tremelo-BGP.JPG target=_blank>This</a> is my guitar, but it's cream instead of black and it doesn't have a tremolo.

<a href= target=_blank>This</a> is my bass, only on mine the head isn't black.

And Olde, nice axes. I'm not all that partial to Les Pauls but the bass is gorgeous, and also, kudos on the Rick in your avatar. I would REALLY REALLY like to have one of those.

I'm not in a band, and I haven't written any songs in ages. =/

If I was in a band though, we'd be called Mike Henson's Secret Stash, and we would be reletively spectacular!

Well, I am in a band. Not sure how far we are taking it though, just small gigs to start with, I should think.
I play bass. We cover many songs, such as The Passenger, by Iggy Pop, to Creep, by Radiohead.
I am really enjoying myself, although I SERIOUSLY need a better amp.

As for my bass guitar, it's not that great, the reason for this is that, it's a Yamaha model which aren't really good as a rule =\

Oh, and lest I forget, I am also in an awesome band with Martha.

It's a Yamaha because it's not great?

I'm not in a band anymore. I was in a hardcore band for about 5 years. We never got anywhere just made a lot of noise. I did find a solo violin performer who goes by the name Final Fantasy though http://www.finalfantasyeternal.com the one song he has online is very nice.

I was about to remind you that I was your brilliant singer TK.... but you posted again so that was ok, although I think we should get Mandi in with us so not only can we be relatively spectacular with a fantastically spiffy name but also to get some lesbian shenanigan rumours on the go

I'm in a band at school but we kinda suck because we have no original songs, all we do is covers...

Once upon a time, when I was yay high, I was in a band. It didn't really make it to the top though, surprisingly so, since it was rather professional with only one guitar and a vocalist who had a tendency to coincidentally lose their voice every time we wanted to practice. I'm not even going to post the picture of the electric guitar we used, it was appalling.

it depends on what punk u play, for example, the misfits stuff is a sinch 2 play but u get to some of the solos by the living end or nofx then its starts 2 get frustrating, but u get the hang of it

TK

No, that's not what I meant. NOFX really isn't punk in the pure sense of the term anyway, their shit is way too complex.

Sure, any hack can work out the chords to a Ramones or Misfits song, but putting together a band that can actually play them well is another thing. It is easy to play the chords to a Ramones song, but it is not easy to play it like Johnny Ramone.

When you hear a good metal song, you have to agree that punk IS really EASY to play.
It takes a lot more time to put together a metal song with 5 minutes of crazy riffage and solos then a punk song which is mere chord changing.

zell hell yeah!
03-16-2005, 03:24 PM
yeah playing metal is more about the complex solo's and riffs where as punk is more about the lyrics and melody but!!!! NOFX are a mix cos there a punk band but with a shit load of awsome guitar!!!!!!

You're not listening. I'm not talking about the composition. I also didn't say that punk was harder to play than metal.

However, I am saying that if you don't practice a lot, you can't play it well. I know what I'm talking about here since I am a guitarist and I happen to play punk music. I'm not even close to as good at it as I'd like to be, and I've been playing for over two years. There's more to playing music than just figuring out the notes and hitting them.

Metal

Maybe we don't have the same image of punk. I consider Offspring some kind of punk representative and metal bands have a lot more melody and better lyrics.

Terry-kun, u have the right idea, being a guitarist myself for 11 years, i have relised that just playing the song isnt good enough, i have 2 put urself in the song, b able 2 express it 2 ur audiance, my example r the HSC markers coming to my skool this yr 2 hear me play

I'm currently in 3 bands, my main one is a white-noise-indie band kinda like My Bloody Valentine but with male vocals (me.) I'm also in a 'grunge' band and an industrial-metal band, those other two I only play guitar in.

Currently we have no songs on-line though, and my setup is this: A Fender Telecaster+ () and two Marshall Stacks. () So I'm getting about 1000w+ through those, so pretty loud. (Both links are not mine, but just examples of what I have)
