Greetings!

I've decided to do an experiment on my part.

In the past few days, I've found the La-La-Land release in lossless after much searching.
I also saw the recording sessions along with it, but not in lossless. This prompted me to
search through FFShrine to find them. I also saw there was a 'Complete Score' bootleg
release beforehand, back when it released months after the film release in 2006.

I decided to report my findings to SonicAdventure, who had a multi-source compilation
disguised as recording sessions, prompting much frustrations with the files he had to
deal with, as well as frustrations with the sound of the official La-La-Land release,
prompting his version for release. During a small discussion, I presented him an idea.

I wanted for there to be a multi-thread of all available sources of this particular score.
Considering how the 2013 release has caused such a divide, it would only make sense.
Unlike some other scores (Spider-Man 3 in particular), the releases were easy to narrow
down. It would allow for people to pick and choose which particular version of the score
they liked best, since there's enough renditions to cause a debate about it.

Sonic Adventure, with Dave999 joining him, approved of the idea. Thus, I was able to begin.

Granted, I decided to wait a while to check on all the sources available. I had two versions of
"Complete Score." The first had likely come from a 128kbps transcode, with it's nasty 16khz
cutoff. The second is marginally better, but it suffers from the same issues and a good chunk
of the files were corrupted. However, after a week or so, a third source came out of SoulSeek.
This is the best source, as the frequencies were around the point that they could be considered
lossless, thus much preferable. I also had to consult Dave999 about the recording sessions, which
did confirm to me that there is only one source for that (technically).

On the FFShrine side, I would like to thank SonicAdventure (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=488241) and Dave999 (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=737068) for giving their blessing
and feedback on the idea. Our discussion can be found on SonicAdventure's thread (Thread 179779). I also would
like to thank jmn77 (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=335312) for having provided the initial (though not used) files, as well as the
prototype to this thread (Thread 114121) (his is severely outdated by today's standards).

On the SoulSeek side, I would like to thank UniMaster, aibadios (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=512774), dkadaver, & TJ-Themes for
having provided much of the files used, though not all were.

Here are the following versions you will find:

1). Original Soundtrack Release (2006)
-Arranged by the composer in a way that would make for an appealing casual listen, this version
will be well suited towards those that don't quite need the whole score and just a well thought
out selection to soothe the mind. I'm pretty sure people already have this version the most out
of all of them, but I'm still putting this here for completion.

2). "Complete Score" (2006)
-Leaked months after the film was out, this package supposedly has all the tracks that were used
in the film. However, this set does contain extras following the last track. While this would push
it to the next section, the set used for that has quite a bit more to it, thus this set staying. As I
mentioned, this was the third and best sounding source of the bunch I found.

3). Recording Sessions (2011)
-Leaked possibly around 2011, this set contains the most material out of all the ones that are here.
With it's split cues, source music, and alternate versions, this is to please those that want every track
from the score that was recorded. This doesn't include any of the orchestral music throughout the film
not composed by Ottman, but those tracks should be easy to find. While some might say why this
wasn't the only leaked release put here, I decided the sound differences between the two are
significant enough to justify inclusion.

I guess I should also mention that the recording sessions are lossy. They're definitely from an mp3, seeing as the frequencies look pretty hacked (though it still sounds fine).

EDIT: It seems that the mp3 files I had were further transcoded from the ALAC, meaning slightly worse frequencies. The ALAC still remains the best for now.

4). La La Land Expanded Release (2013)
-Released in 2013, this set caused much anticipation, but it resulted in much debate in it's sound
quality, thus the reason for this thread. It's not my preferred sound signature, but I honestly don't
have much issues with it, though I need to give it a full listen.

5). SonicAdventure Remastered Deluxe Edition (2014)
-Originally created without knowledge of the previous set, it was released to combat the sound
issues that the LaLaLand version have. I recommed going to the original thread to read the process
that was gone through, as well as the issues with the previous set. This set might be the most appealing
sound wise, but that's for you to decide.

If there are any issues or points that need to be brought up, feel free to write in the comments. Also,
if there is a contribution you would like to make to this thread, feel free to contact me or just write it
in the comments. Thank you for your time!

Well damn, thanks for this. I'm glad I can finally have a definitive film version set and differentiate it from the sessions (which is MUCH larger), and the La-La Land release. Kudos ;)

Awesome! Part of the reason I made this thread is not only chronicling the versions that exist and the differences in sound quality, but also for one to pick and make personalized versions out it, as well as putting in more editions that might be out there.

For there to be a film version, there would need to be be the non-Ottman pieces that are used in the film. I think I should've included those to further complete the thread, but I wouldn't know where to look for them. I'll probably include them eventually.

If you do plan to do one of your famous film mixes on this score, feel free to contact me for it's inclusion here. Of course, you can always have it be it's own post, but it would be nice regardless. Feel free to do what you want. Thanks!

:D I love doing that!

There are often so many sources for the same thing that some are bound to be better than others. I usually end up picking-and-choosing bits and pieces and combining them into one compilation.

I really do like this. The thing with the sources is that they are all pretty consistent sound wise in their own set. Thus, I feel that to be less likely with this score. Still, if one does manage to make a version that can really offer, they can feel free to include it here if they desire so

Wow, this is such an awesome idea, that it almost makes me wish that it was the norm to do this with every release of a major film score. Too bad that something like this would take time and most people still have lives to lead; but one can always dream, right?

On the bright side, I'm glad that all the effort went to a score truly deserving of the attention such as this one. Thanks for the great work!

I feel that there are different sorts of people that can do different types of things on the forums. Multi-Threads are ones that pop up less often, but they do exist. The only noticeable one is Blade Runner, if only because it's a cluster-bomb. Still, the reason there isn't much is because there simply aren't that many scores that has had many versions released or leaked material that people can take advantage of. Granted, this forum covers many official and unofficial releases of soundtracks, but it's still only a percentage. The future can hold to many more, but never all, unless crazy things happen.

Thanks! I really wanted to present the score in way that any person can like, considering what divide that the La La Land release caused. I'm considering maybe doing another score, only after I finish a thing of personal enjoyment. I won't say what is, but the hint I'll give is that it's another La La Land release and it's one that's out of stock. I won't give any promises, but I'm still thinking about it.

Very glad I could help, HunterTech.
Here's hoping someone will make a film edit out of this including all of the supplemental music (Vivaldi, etc). :)

Here are the following versions you will find:

1). Original Soundtrack Release (2006)
-Arranged by the composer in a way that would make for an appealing casual listen, this version

THIS is how I love a score to be presented.
All of the various sources, separated one from each other, with relative information.

It's so good for a score collector like me!

Thanks for your huge effort, clarity and precision HunterTech! :D
I've watched the movie just once, don't really remember the score, but I'll give it a chance thanks to you! ;)

Very good and great job HunterTech for this this wonderful masterpiece collection. I want to thank you Sonic Adventure, with Dave999 for their input as well. I love that their a lot of love an care that went into this. And it shows. I wish more threads were like this. I will get you a Rep in a few days when it resets itself. A Big Thanks.

If you do plan to do one of your famous film mixes on this score, feel free to contact me for it's inclusion here. Of course, you can always have it be it's own post, but it would be nice regardless. Feel free to do what you want. Thanks!

*IF I did make one.....IF....I wouldn't post it. It would be for me and me only. The Dark Knight was my swan song.

Very glad I could help, HunterTech.
Here's hoping someone will make a film edit out of this including all of the supplemental music (Vivaldi, etc). :)

It's really not that hard. If you have Audition (or Audacity, the poor man's Audition), you can do one yourself. Someone's gotta take over the reigns for me :p

While it's unfortunate you aren't going to do any more for public listening, TDK was a hell of a way to go out. Did you do any for the rest of the trilogy beforehand? If so, would you update them if new sources were to be leaked?

I admit it's an easy task, but it requires time and patience, things that I waste pretty easily. I get frustrated trying to split a single file into a multiple set alone. I did this project if only because I had managed to find everything I needed pretty quickly. It's only life that got in the way and other stuff that it took me a while, as well as verification.

I just hope whoever follows in your foot steps will be a worthy successor.

I know I PMed you on how you did your film mixes so I could attempt one but I lost your PM before reading it and always forgot to get in touch with you again.
Also, IF....IF I ever attempt a film mix I'd need to put my heart and soul in it, and yes, then most likely I would start with Superman Returns :)

Dude, considering your organization skills, I think that's one step into making a film mix. I think you can have the talent to make one. It just requires time and patience, which I don't really have at the moment. DAK should be helpful, I imagine. You can succeed if you try.

If you were to make a film mix of this score, the "Various Tracklists" text should be very helpful. Watching the film can also be beneficial to the process. Lastly, asking for feedback from any person can be adding to it in the long run.

Lastly, "Heart and Soul" is the name of one of the source tracks, so your words are fitting. :)

Very well put together! I like this, I wish I would always have this much information.

I feel lucky to have had the resources to pull this all together, as well as the information. I definitely feel like doing this with another score, but I wouldn't be sure which. It won't be Blade Runner, that's for sure.

Also, I think I'm starting to hear why the La-La-Land set is so problematic. Though still not the worst, listening to most of the first disc left me pretty exhausted. It was too loud and aggressive from what I normally like from scores. At a certain point of time, I was like "Who thought this was good for release?" I can like the loud and dumb sound when used on the right music, but it simply didn't fit this. It became especially more jarring when things would get soft, yet either the volume was still a bit much or a bit too little. It kind of makes me glad I made this thread in the first place. I would need to finish it first, but it's too much from where I'm standing at the moment.

Also, how come the recording sessions be so inconsistent with volume at points? I listened to both "Daily Planet" cues and it sounded even louder than the La-La-Land release. I need audio science to explain this.

Recording Sessions are 16bit lossless.

It's in ALAC. Everything here is supposed to be lossless, or at least in the format to preserve lossy quality at points.

So on the version of the complete score that I have, I've got one cue without a slate. It's called Things Have Changed and runs 1:14. It appears between 9m08 Fly Away and 9m09a Reprise. Can anyone please give me details on this? Tell me what the slate should be? If it's an unused cue? Anything?

Um, it does have a slate (2m7).

In the film, it's supposed to play between 2m6 Closet Case and 3m5 Like Sea Monkeys, which is the same on the RS and CS (not the LLL set though, for listening reasons, I suppose).

Weirdly enough, my copy of the RS here doesn't have a slate for Stars In The Sky. Neither does the slates on its own have mention of such track.

---------- Post added at 03:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:38 PM ----------

I guess I should also mention that the recording sessions are lossy. They're definitely from an mp3, seeing as the frequencies look pretty hacked (though it still sounds fine). It only took me finding a 320 untitled set that had the exact same frequencies. When I re-upload, I'll replace the FLAC with said mp3 files.

EDIT: It seems that the mp3 files I had were further transcoded from the ALAC, meaning slightly worse frequencies. The ALAC still remains the best for now.

WTF, now I see it. For some reason my set has it twice - once where it belongs (and it DOES have a slate in that spot) and then once at the end. Weird.

I don't even have a cue titled Stars In the Sky on any of my sets. But my version of the sessions has quite a few cues that don't have slates:

It seems your set doesn't have the official track titles for all of them. The "Various Tracklists" I have posted in the first place should tell the actual names.

Besides the third track actually being just Not Like The Train Set, I don't know the rest. Can you post the overall tracklist of your set, as well as the file format?

Sessions vs. complete

What's the diff? Why the different tracks?

HunterTech
11-12-2016, 03:55 AM
Hmm...

Your copy of the Complete Score is missing tracks alright.

And I think the Recording Sessions is more lining up with the CS I should be putting back up. The RS I have has more multi-part cues and alternates.

Where did you get both of them from? Could you perhaps PM me them for further inspection?

DAKoftheOTA

I have no clue where I got them. Most likely from here somewhere, years ago.....

Sessions vs. complete

What's the diff? Why the different tracks?

Sessions: everything written and recorded for a film

Complete: everything featured in the film

Sessions vs. complete

What's the diff? Why the different tracks?

Simple: Too many versions out there, it seems. I probably just narrowed down the most consistent ones.

I only posted both because of the sound differences (CS being softer, RS being louder), which was the primary purpose.

---------- Post added at 06:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------

I have no clue where I got them. Most likely from here somewhere, years ago.....

Figures.

I'd be willing to inspect them, seeing as the best copy of the real RS is about 256-320k mp3.

---------- Post added at 07:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:59 PM ----------

Hell, the RS I have seems to be missing cues (9m8*Fly Away Alt, 3m5 FULL*Like Sea Monkeys), but has some that don't show up on the slates (6m10A-D, 7m4 Pt. 1-4). This is so odd.

---------- Post added at 07:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:03 PM ----------

I just made a realization: There is no real difference between the Complete Score and the Recording Sessions. Despite the sound differences, they're both the exact same set, only with names being made up for the cues that are only on the RS (hence DAK's issue).

The ACTUAL complete score bootleg should have 57 tracks, not 75.

Guess who's gonna go searching again?

salve, ho provato a scaricare qualche soundtrac, ma quando vado ad estrarre l'archivio (pass: MasteringIsComplicated) mi dice password errata o archivio danneggiato.
grazie in anticipo

In copy and pasting the PW, I accidentally left a space at the end. If it doesn't work, just press space once after typing it.

I should get around to editing the files, considering I need to make significant changes.

Is it me or are the files saying they are corrupted for everyone? Unable to open even when using the correct password.

They still work fine for me, so something must be off in your set up.

My only suggestions for everyone who has trouble opening the files are making sure the password they're using is correct, and having updated versions of 7Zip/WinRar; they added RAR5 compatibility (different, and more compression) last year.

Anyone still having problems? Even when I enter the password accurately, I still get an incorrect password\corrupt file notation.

Hi there. The pasword MasteringIsComplicated doesn't work. :(

It'll work if you add a space after it. :D

Looks like I'll be the one to do the job of creating a film mix for the score...

P.S. Thanks for the thread, Hunter! Gladly appreciate your efforts.
