The shadow of Richard Strauss falls long and dark. But everyone should listen to the Introduction to Der Ferne Klang at least once. Schreker would have been a marvellous film composer.

Even though not being familiar with Franz Schreker's works, the composer's name rings my bell...

The way you expose the life and art of this austrian musician definitely provokes an urgent need to discover it !

I just had a look at photos taken from him and you can perfectly imagine the intensity of his creation, the suffering in his existence...

Which is only ever how I've listened to him. It was his favoured creative outlet. He also wrote his own librettos.

You have re-ignited my love of Schreker and my search for more of his music has led me to others - I am particularly enjoying Karol Rathaus, who was a pupil of Schreker.
