This recording is a first, all right, and also a last. There were many moments along the way when we doubted both our wisdom and our endurance. Yes, it was unforgettable and glorious and satisfying and exciting and all those things. But it was also frustrating and time-consuming and exhausting and maddening and all those things… We were ill prepared for the rigors of Venice. Not only is it remote from USA but, thanks to its aquatic situation, access is difficult. Cut off from most of Europe by either the Adriatic or Alps, it is further protected by the Macaroni Curtain, a spiky and impregnable bureaucracy known as Italian Customs. Despite a year of preparation and negotiation, we collided repeatedly with this blockade in a saga that approaches opera buffa….

I would like to hear it. Thank you.

"The Glory of Gabrieli was first released in 1968 and caused a sensation for its marvelous antiphonal performances by the Gregg Smith Singers, the Texas Boys Choir, and the Edward Tarr Brass Ensemble, conducted by Vittorio Negri and accompanied on organ by the inimitable E. Power Biggs. Yet even more sensational was the phenomenal sound of this vibrant stereo recording, which captured the magnificent acoustics of San Marco, Venice, with breathtaking fidelity..."
