I noticed that in the community that people often use generic NES 8-bit or the Sonic-based Ultimate Genesis soundfont to make nostalgic versions of the most overrated songs.

But in Japan, Game Boy 8-bit and MSX 8-bit might be more popular there.

In my opinion, I wish Data East arcade soundfonts like DECO32 or replicas of streaming VGMs like Redbook audio, Pulstar and Sin & Punishment exist in .sf2 format.

In studio softwares, FL Studio is one of the most popular, but it feels less user-friendly than I expected.

There's some who use FamiTracker (http://www.famitracker.com/index.php) or DefleMask (http://www.deflemask.com/) to make these, too. I've heard some pretty sweet tunes from both. Check them out, if you get a chance!

Matthew Valente (https://www.youtube.com/user/tssf/videos), who did the arrangements for the 3D Chrono Trigger remake (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r27uPt_YApI&fmt=22) that got C&D'ed a bunch of years ago, posts new works using soundfonts almost every day (I think using Impulse Tracker).

Chibi-tech is another good example. She took Psyvariar Asteroid theme and made it ThunderForce IV style:
