Saw that someone made a request for music from the Myst series.

Nanahara1983 provided some links (Thread 62395) and lovely cover artwork, but as those links are dead, I've taken it upon to myself to provide new links - some of which are the same as the ones provided in the aforementioned thread, and some of which I've picked up along the way in other places in an attempt to produce a Definitive Myst Collection. If you recognise your work or collection here, do please let me know; I'm merely trying to provide a definitive source for this material, but take absolutely no credit for it!

Think I need to point out that URU is NOT Myst VI - Myst V takes place after URU, the Bahro have been released but are still enslaved by the Tablet.

Right you are! I wasn't sure, however, how to make it fit into the pre-existing taxonomy I set up. If I made it Myst: Uru, it might appear in front of Myst I. If I made it Myst IV.V or Myst 4.5, that would be weird and offensive to my eyes.

So I went with the path of least resistance: "stuff it! It's not one of the single player games! Myst IV it is!"

Am in the process of uploading them all now (and ye gods it's slow to upload, this may take a few hours).

As for the quality: the files vary. (Caveat: as I have a bit of a tin ear, so I cannot physically discern between things like lossless versus lossy.)

Having taken a quick squizz at the files, most are lossy, with a bitrate around 257 kbps.

My attitude has always been: I'm happy to simply have access to this music, so I will take what I can get.

I understand that's not everyone's attitude, nor everyone's preference.

That said, I hope people will accept it on the grounds that yours truly doesn't have that level of audio discernment of more serious audiophiles, and be gracious and kind towards this particular shortcoming.

Alongside the main albums, I included the Worlds of Myst album, which is a collection of Myst-related music I've collected over the years, which includes fan-made music, assorted suites, mixes, demo tracks, etc.

My goal has been to amass the most complete collection of all and any Myst (and its sequels, spin-offs, etc.) music.

The complete Myst, for example, includes tracks from RealMyst.

As always: if the links go down, do please let me know.

And if anyone else has Myst-related music that they are happy to share, that would be extremely well-received, as I'm clearly a fan of the Myst series.

They're in mp3 format, I believe (have a tin ear, can't hear any difference between a file in FLAC and a file in MP3 format).

Honestly, I really can't hear much of a difference. Much in the same way that a friend once put on Dark Side of the Moon for me in stereo and then in 5.1, explaining that the latter was meant to be of a far better quality of sound.

Sitting there on his couch, listening to demos of both versions, I found myself preferring the stereo version.

Suspect I may just not have the same quality of hearing that you do.

That would be great for sure! I wonder if Robyn Miller has any interest in remastering the Riven soundtrack in the same fashion, or if he even feels it's necessary compared to the Myst soundtrack.

In any case, I'm here to thank you again, since I've returned to grab Myst (for the RealMyst tracks), the Uru collections, and Worlds of Myst (out of curiosity). Hopefully there comes a day when all of this material is readily available in lossless format, but for now it's just nice to have a thorough collection. So, thanks again!

Myst III and IV were recently released on GOG, and I of course purchased them *immediately*. Because I love those games something fierce. (I played the original Myst for 14 hours non-stop until I finished it.) One of my side projects is to go through the audio files in recently updated versions of the game and work through the audio files, compare track lengths, quality, and order, and then update the scores I've currently assembled. My *hope*, however, is that Ultimate Edition versions of the scores will be released, which contain updated tracks, more unreleased music, and possibly a few new surprises.

I'm not sure what the timetable is for the release of the rest of the games, so, erm, I guess, just visit Myst.com regularly for updates?

That's a question with an answer that will always vary, depending on who you ask. Me personally? Uru: Ages Beyond Myst will always be my favourite, I suspect.
