Oooh, Paul Hindemith! This gets better and better, Bob!

The first time I ever heard Hindemith's music it was March of '86. This was my final weekend stateside for a long time and I was stuck in Grand Rapids for the weekend, saying final goodbyes.

It was a very disappointing, bittersweet weekend for me. Late Sunday night I was still very depressed over how my promising weekend had crashed, burned and turned to utter shiite. Nothing left to do but get my things ready to leave in the morning. That's when I scanned the AM dial and found a concert coming from Ottawa, Canada, playing Paul Hindemith. It was lovely, and brightened an otherwise dull and highly disappointing goodbye from the weekend.

The concert fading in and out from Canada was so beautiful that I'd started a recording midway through. Some time years ago that recording was lost but I never forgot how beautiful the music and how uplifted I was for listening.
