ok my question is simple..... What games do you think could make the Final Fantasy Series "Bend over and cry"?


Me, I really haven't seen one yet.

In terms of graphical quality and overall gameplay, I'd agree that the Final Fantasy games are some of the best RPGs I've played. However, I feel that if you forget about graphics for a second, then there are many games which could challenge them from a gameplay point of view.

Suikoden (1 + 2):- From a graphical standpoint, these two games are just above the sort of SNES standard for good graphics. The game engine itself is quick to pick up, and the fighting system allows you to "auto" pick (all characters attack) to save time. The storyline is involving, and it takes you on an emotional ride. Although shorter than the FF games, I still found myself going back to replay, in order to get the 108 stars.

Grandia:- Another great game, and another emotionally involving storyline. Again, graphics are nothing to write home about, although there is speech in some of the cut scenes. The characters are well built, and the emotions are well documented throughout the game. I enjoyed every second of this game.

Alundra:- Alundra is of the vein of the Zelda RPG, where you control one character who can jump / attack / solve puzzles. The first game was made early in the Playstation's life, and gave me some interesting puzzles, especially in the last castle. The storyline was again top notch, and the controls were easy to learn. The second Alundra was less good, moving into 3-D and losing a lot of its charm.

Zelda:- I'll be honest here and say that I haven't played that many Zelda games, so a lot of this is based on other opinions from mates and stuff. If any series of RPGs is to challenge the FF series, it would be this one. There's a lot of hype around the quality of the adventure and graphics that the N64 had for this game, but like I said, I haven't played it so I can't make a first hand judgement.

Well, that's my views anyway. Hopefully when I have the time and the finances I can invest in an N64 to play on Zelda. Living in the UK has its disadvantages in that a significant number of games don't see the light of day over here. (See: Final Fantasises 1 - 6, Dragonquest.) Therefore, I am limited there in my judgement aswell.

Hope I haven't bored too many people away from replying...

the only games i can think of that could make final fantasy games "bend over and cry" is the zelda series.

Zelda is good playins isn't it? I don't know if its considered a RPG game but that is about the only game that could compete with the final fantasy series.

There is no rpg that can come even close to FF7. That's what i think. Still there are alot of other great rpg's out there, like Xenogears that smashes most FF's and Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia for the dreamcast that are very good non-square rpg's.

The Zelda series is equal to FF... and Xenogears as well. All great games, which have a just as good story line as FF and some other games, which are only temporarly.

I never really got into Zelda but I did like Mario Bros. and Chrono Trigger

I haven't played any of the games that Bahamut ZERO mentioned, I have also never played Xenogears

games better den final fantasy? *shivers* Scary.....

You people sicken me...haven't any of you ever played the Dragon Warrior series?!! I'm not even going to start getting into it now because I will type forever and no one will want to read everything I type...oh, and for those of you who are picky, yes it was Dragon Quest in Japan.

I would have to say Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time

There are many better games than Final Fantasy, Xenogears is a great game along with Zelda, SaGa Frontier, and Chrono Series. Some of these games are way better than some Final Fantasy Games, like V for instance, i hated the game to an extent and never wanted to play it again. But i really liked Final Fantasy VII the best of all Final Fantasy's.

I personnaly think Xenogears outmatches a lot of FF's including 5,4,2,1,8 and many more but still the final fantasy's are still a great series. Also one of my favs is the chrono series its such a good storyline i had to play them both over a over again. It just depends on how you like the story and how the charecters come to your mind and how you think of them.

FFT tops any game in the world... so ...

coming second close would be Diablo 2 (MMORPG... well not really since its limited to 8 in a game)

Making FF bend over and hang its head in shame isn't good, but Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross i believe beat FF games. They're so cool.

I think that diablo 2 could be equal to ff series but it's hard to tell.

skies of arcadias gameplay is almost as good, grandias graphics r at least equal. overall, nothin comes close.

I have played either the Dragon Warrior or Dragon Warrior II.

how is Dragon Warrior VII..is it a buyer?

Favorite all-time games would have to be GTA3 for ps2 and FFX (so far) ;)

'till now there's no games can compare with FF.....But I believe someday there will be a kiss-ass game that kicks FF out of the list...

No RPG is better than FF

Xenogears would undoughtedly kick final fantasy's ass in terms of story and the battle system. and to me parasite eve 1 and 2 are almost equal to final fantasy in terms of story, for something different any way and definately with graphics. dragon warrior isn't really my kind of game but it is pretty good. and so are the chrono games. but when you think about it, final fantasy can't really be beat in my opinion.but when a game comes out that can,xenosaga maybe, then i won't be very skeptical.

ff7 was the best to me. Nothng can beat it! But I do thing that the Zelda games are fun to play.

There aint many games that can whoop ff's pink poody lol but here are a few that i think did in terms of story / music / dare i say graphics lol anyways.


1. Chrono trigger stomped on FFIII's sorry arse in terms of graphics music story and longevity..and chrono trigger probaly stomps on most any rpg in alot of ways..except graphics nowadays...( graphics do not make a game )

2. Anyone ever hear of a lil tale called DRAGON WARRIOR!?! lol its the final fantasy killer in japan...although the DW7 sorta blew in many ways in the u.s it was still pretty damn cool.

3. This is my opinion only because i found myself dedicated to the series from sega cd.. Lunar : Silver star and Eternal blue both had things that would stomp on most of FF's. Music :D , Story line for sure..and char. personalities... Nall Ruby LoL they were great in Eternal Blue...Ghaleon..e'nuff said.


4. Finally Suikoden ... this game was the most unique in every way and it was keyword : FUN! lol.

No game is better then FF8!! But i can mension a whole lot of games that is on equal line with FF8.

Zelda Hey it waz my first game that i really enjoyed it. Had it on that first Gameboy!

Diablo Had really, really fun playing it online!! I waz a PKK:D

Black&White Simply amazing graphic!! The game play waz brilliant... All the animals were funny... and you could do a LOT of things!! I e`specially enjoyed throwing people under the nose of my creature. The creature whould just stair at the human flying... Then pick him up.. and maybe eat it.

Unreal Tournament Its the best game i ever played, multiplayer and single player. When you get GODLIKE on multiplayer ya get ac`cuse by the other players for aimbot. But i know i dont have it so thats fun.

The C&C series are way up in the charts with the FF series...(if you like strategy games..)

The Championship manager series is cool if ya like fotball and managing stuff.

BLASPHEMERSSS!! how could any of you think that a game was better than final fantasy. The closest is The legend of Dragoon. But even it has a long way to go.

Final Fantasy isn't everything at RPG, so I find this question kinda stupit without offense. It's like asking "Are there better fightings that Tekken?". There are so many wonderful rpgs out there, so don't stick with only one francise cause it makes rpgs more popular. After all, don't forget that if it wasn't for Dragon Quest which inspired Final Fantasy you wouldn't play Final Fantasy at all.

Shadow Hearts... Breath of fire... Leagonds of dragoon... Devil may cry... but there's no rpg that would make FF roll over and cry except D&D. That is a fact.

The Quest for Glory series is better than Final Fantasy. They have a deep story, you can import your character from game to game, and you can cast spells.

King's Quest is also better than Final Fantasy. The King's Quest games have a great, deep, and compelling story; they let you play as different members of the kingdom's family; and all of the games can now be played in VGA. I don't know how FF could be better than that.

Kingdom Hearts, without a doubt. The first game is very special to me, but the second one is, in many ways, where the meat is. I was actually crying by the end of it, and I don't cry at games or movies. The storyline is amazing and powerful. Don't be put of at all by the Disney in it, this is a very worthy game.

Also, Chrono Trigger for similar reasons. It's THE RPG. In addition, although the battle system is similar to Final Fantasy, I actually prefer it over Final Fantasy. The multiple endings bug me though.

All this, bearing in mind that I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan, myself.

I think Final Fantasy is unbeatable so far. The closest thing is Kingdom Hearts though.

It's always been one of the rules/guidelines, not just here but also on other forums as well.
