That's his original post, but here's what I think he meant :

So, can you help or give me useful info on this game, or are you just gonna be mad that I can't use proper grammar and stuff ? You get the meaning, whether or not I am good with punctuation and grammar, right ?

Actually, that's my whole point. No, I do not get the meaning when I just look at your sentence the way it is written. To do so, I have to rewrite your sentence in my head, like I just physically did, and understand what I believe it is you meant, but that's not always foolproof when hand-slapped the way you do it. And you know what ? Why would anyone want to make the effort when you yourself aren't making any ?

Honestly, do you expect people to take the time to give you a well-thought, complete answer, when you yourself don't take the time to ask a well-thought,well-written answer ? It's quite common sense, really.

So, you want advice on FFXI ? Here's the first tip I'll give you about FFXI. Do not ask questions in the way you've asked in this thread. Because even if we do want to answer, we can't, because we can't make up what you're talking about, and even when we do, you're not giving enough details for us to be able to know what you're talking about. Let's take your last post again. You're talking about some Warchief ? Some Orc ? Great, I'm assuming Warchief Vatgit in Ghelsba Outpost...but then it could some higher level orc, too. How do you expect us to answer a question you don't really understand for yourself ?

Nobody's asking you to have perfect grammar. Everyone makes typos and puts some slang here and there. But when it becomes so badly written that you can't know what it is you meant, don't expect people to actually bother. You may think Black Waltz and I are being mean to you for saying this, but truth is, we're actually quite nice to even bother telling you what we're trying to make you realize.

Put aside whatever education or grammar skills you have, and just simply use your common sense. You want good answers to your questions ? Ask good questions then. Otherwise, you'll only recieve bitching and incomplete answers.

EDIT : Relestial's answer is quite good, too. Shorter, but quite good :p

and what level u need to be at to beat a Warchief Vatgit in Ghelsba Outpost

Evad D'Aragon
02-04-2005, 11:43 PM
Unless you're a White Mage, and even so, it just might be possible, Warchief Vatgit is soloable at 17. But then I wouldn't know, because I took him on as a 24 WAR/MNK with great ease. That Orc is a mere mission-based NM (Notorious Monster), a real push-over.

And, actually, a Galka White Mage CAN work. Superior player skills and adequate gear can always make for the lack of some stats for some jobs with some races. But that's to an extent, anyway. But as Relestial pointed out the obvious extremes, expect it to be harder to level a WHM with a Galka or a WAR with a Taru if it is your first job. It is a fact that some races are naturally more suited for some jobs, but in the end, any job can be efficiently played with any race. And besides, there isn't just the race and main job, there's also the sub job to take into consideration.

As for the other info, it's really hard to say, because you've never played. And even when you do , don't expect to ask us anything in-game if you indeed go to Diabolos, because most of us are on Cerberus.

EDIT : By the way, please do not double-post. That's what the EDIT button is for.

so u guys/girls must be very strong at this game eh

I no if i get this game i will try and do my best to level up, i also would like to no can u gain exp in all jobs at any point in the game

like i hear about jobs and sub jobs can u ever have a 3rd job? or at least level up a 3rd job?

Evad D'Aragon
02-05-2005, 04:19 AM
You can switch your job at any time. Let's say you level Warrior to 10, then switch to White Mage. You'd go back to level 1, but if you return to Warrior, you're once again level 10. That's a good way to avoid having to delete a character just because you didn't enjoy your initial job choice. A sub job is a job that adds power to your main job, per say. You can only take a sub-job once you reach level 18.

Let's take my example. I am a Paladin with a Warrior sub-job.

What the sub job does is give you roughly 20% of the stats you'd have at that level with that job plus any abilities you'd have at that level as well. And your sub job can never be more than half the level of your main.

Therefore, my being a level 65 Paladin ( almost 66, but I disgress ) means that I have the stats of a 65 Hume Paladin, all its abilites PLUS 20% of a level 32 Hume Warrior's stats PLUS all the abilities a level 32 Warrior would have.

And, frankly speaking, it's not so much that we're "strong" that we have just been playing for much longer. That's all.

However, there's one thing you should know right away. Unless you're, say, a Beastmaster, you CANNOT efficiently level up on your own past level 15 or so. Monsters that give decent exp will become too hard for you to fight alone, so you'll always have to get a party. Not just for exp, but for most missions and quests as well. That is both one of the game's strength and weakness. It encourages fellowship, which means you can't do much on your own.

Well, that's about answering what you asked. However, there is nothing in what I just told you that you wouldn't have been able to find on your own with the links Relestial just gave you. Therefore, I'd suggest you take a better look at all the info you have available before asking a question to which you could have found the answer by yourself.

thx ok i have looked at the links a little bit but there is alot of info to find on this game besides i have been reading all kinds of the things in the forums tooo

one more question i have...

if u level say a warrior to level 10 then dislike it and want a white mage when u get ready for your sub can u sub the warrior and what u originaly had it up to apear instantly if your white mage is level 20

i mean like so as a job u would then have a 20 white mage sub level 10 warrior right

Wattson
02-05-2005, 05:46 AM
WHM/WAR is a terrible combo.

Each job is it's own little entity, in a way. They only gain experience if you use them as your main job. Once you complete the subjob quest at level 18, you choose one job for your main, and another job for your subjob. Your subjob is limited to half the level of your main job. So, you level your (crappy) WHM/WAR to 6, then it'd be a level 6 WHM, level 3 WAR, all the way up to 20 WHM/10 WAR. Once you hit 22, though, you'd want to go back and level your (now underleveled) subjob.

Methos
02-05-2005, 05:59 AM
no no not what i meant dude Evad said u can change your job anytime right so if u had leveled up some job and then disliked it and later once u complete the quest to have a sub can u make the job u leveled up before the sub and it still be the same as when u left it

i would most likely never make a white mage warrior lol it was just an example

if i made a white mage i would have a sub black

and if i make a warrior most likely sub Paladin when i get to the right level and stuff

all this depending if i even get the game lol now i really want it

so basicaly keep your job and sub even that sounds like a reasonable thing to do

Evad D'Aragon
02-05-2005, 06:13 PM
...

You never, ever, ever, sub Paladin. Bad idea, bad bad idea. Sure, you'd get a lot more defense, which could help the defensive WAR, but you get so limited in the magic department that it really doesn't come into fruition. You sub Warrior to Paladin, though.

Yeah, once you level a job its level is never lost but if you put it as your sub it can't be more than half you current main's. Let's take my example again.

Leveled Warrior up to 18. Then Monk to 15. When I ended, I was a 15 MNK/7 WAR. However, once I switched back to WAR I was a 18WAR/9MNK. Then made it to 30WAR/MNK and became a PLD. Once I hit 60 as PLD, I leveled SAM to 18, then went up to 37WAR/18SAM.

Oh, one more thing. Actually, WHM/WAR can work but only when you're soloing your first 10 levels. The little boost in combat skills can benefit you but as soon as you start partying, ditch it.

Methos
02-05-2005, 07:22 PM
lol i think i worded that backwords sorry

i meant to say...

if i made a white mage when i could change jobs i would then make it a black with sub a white

and...

if i make a warrior when i could level a nether job i would then put warrior as a sub for a Paladin

may i ask how long have u had the game?

Specs ?

...

Simple, what are the components of your PC... What kind of PC do you have ?

You bought the game, you're pretty much screwed, but the good news is, since you did't activate the codes, you should be able to sell it on eBay or something.

The Benchmark is a program that tests your PC to know how well it can ( or not ) run the game.

Well, if it's displaying 'Hardware TnL' errors Methos, it's almost definetely the video card at fault (most likely you have onboard video on your computer which just doesn't cut the mustard - as a lot of computers have it - even my own PC came with onboard video.). Really, upgrade your video card to a Geforce or Radeon video card and then see if it solves the problem (I use a Geforce 4 MX 440 video card myself, which isn't too bad and it was quite cheap too, and runs FFXI nicely which is the main thing.)

Hardware TnL (texture and lighting) problems is probably one of the most commonly asked questions about running FFXI on PC, and the answer is normally upgrade your video card. In most cases, people which get that error message normally are running onboard video on their PCs, which doesn't really run FFXI. Upgrading the video card is about the only way to beat this error message I'm afraid.

Press the Scroll Lock key on your keyboard to remove all the menus and displays off the screen (only the character names should be showing), then press the Print Screen key (both keys should be right next to each other on most standard keyboards). To bring back the menus, simply press the Scroll Lock key again.

Note, when you take a screenshot, it doesn't save it onto your PC. To actually save you screenshots, you have to go back to PlayOnline Viewer, and open the Mail viewer. Search through the subfolders for the 'Screenshots' folder. This is where any FFXI screenshots you take are saved to (they're saved automatically in JPEG format). To actually save them to your PC however, you actually have to send them as an email attachment to any other email address you have (even Hotmail works). This is very time consuming, as PlayOnline's Mail viewer only allows a maximum of five images to be attached to an email message at a time.

You can also access your screenshots to view them or attach them to email via the Album option under Compendium on the main FFXI page in PlayOnline Viewer. Unfortunately however, the same limit applies to attaching images to email in Album as it does in PoL Mail, but they're the only way of saving screenshots to your PC as far as I'm aware.

Of course you could alternaltively get a second PC with a capture card, and run the first PC (or PS2) with FFXI into the second one and capture screenshots that way, but that is a very expensive and complicated option.

Firstly, Evad D'Aragon, thanks for the link. I'll try that program out later, as I was a bit put out that the game's in-built screenshot function doesn't capture the menu overlays.

Secondly, to MogKnight, thank you very much for letting me know about that! I was completely unaware that the screenshots were saved onto my system (as there is no mention of it whatsover in the game's manual). I had suspected that maybe copies of the screenshots were in fact on my HDD, but, despite some fruitless searching through the many folders of PlayOnline Viewer, I kept coming back empty handed.

Thanks again for steering me in the right direction!
