Kinda funny how this is probably going to turn out better than Batman v Superman. Maybe the Lego franchise is DC's most profitable future for Batman movies. :p

DC ought to make their animated features for theatrical releases.

But then, no. They won't make nearly enough money as they hoped. Or recoup their costs in promoting it.

I would love to see Batman Under the Red Hood in theaters.

I don't see why they wouldn't get a box office sucess with animated features of DC. I mean.. they're way more great than their live action movies. In quality and everything.

Yeah, it'd be pretty weird to see a 2D animated feature of DC in the big screen, but that means chances to have bigger actors and better animation.

They need to make animated films that don't use that anime sort of style and make them more than just violence porn (which is what the most recent ones look like to me).

Under the Red Hood, minus a few small issues, was fantastic. With a beefier story and maybe some better animation it could have made a decent amount.

I wonder if Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, if given the chance, would make one last entry into the DCAU in the form of a theatrical film...

Marvel = Live Action Major Bloackbusters

DC = Tv Series & Animated Films/Blockbusters

True dat.
Marvel managed to produce a few AMAZING cartoons before they devolved into Ultimate Spider-Man.

Wolverine and the X-Men, Spectacular Spider-Man, and the first season-and-a-half of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes = :swoon:

But now Marvel can't produce any good cartoons. DC was doing pretty good on that front until Teen Titans Go :notgood:

I don't see the DC animated films being anime style though, I don't think the comics would fit into any other animation style. You have any suggestion?

I think their goal is to always use a different style for every new movie.

The special features to Throne of Atlantis made it that clear, explaining the sheen placed all over the underwater scenes.
The different animation styles compared to the previous films.

Like how there were a lot of "Showcase" films featuring dozens of different artists with different styles:
Animatrix
Arkham Knights
Halo Legends

I think rather than limiting artists to animated shorts, they aim for giving them feature length films.

It certainly seems like its in a pseudo-anime style. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRGHcuxkX40)

anime style

Compared to a lot of the earlier Western/American styles, the recent films are not really going for wonky, stupid anime, but the styles for newest films are Asian styles more than American.

Anime doesn't have to be all about the kawaii eyes and all.
Anime has millions of animation styles. Most of it silly cartoons.

But if you ask me I think it fits the animated features perfectly. I cannot see the DC animated movies animated differently. You want something closer to the comics? Can be done.. but would take way more money and effort. It's not only about money but the damn effort it'd take to animate like that. Because the DC and Marvel comics are way too visual and the characters are very defined and worked up, almost realistic, that'd hardly fit into an animated movie.

I think the definition of anime is simply japanese animation. However it has grown into a style since many years ago, I can get that. I was also told the difference between anime and western animation is, that western animation tends to be full and has emphasis in characters and to make everything believable, while anime makes a lot of emphasis in scenes and backgrounds? Something like that. Meaning, in anime, artists tend to work their scenes and drawings a lot up more, to make up for the lack of "animation" per se.

I dunno... Marvel has been killing it with TV shows lately. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Daredevil and Jessica Jones are all amazing and Luke Cage looks set to be great too. I'd say Marvel and DC are pretty even on the TV show grounds. Besides, Marvel is pretty confident with taking risks with their shows while DC is starting to play it safe since Arrow is just stagnating.

Not really Marvel's fault. It's more Disney's. All the shows are now committed to promoting the movies and toylines. It's the only downside of Marvel's ownership by Disney.
