This is a very, very underrated film with a great cast and an excellent score! (Parts of it were actually recycled in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Not really a highlight of television creativity.)

And it makes a great companion piece to Lean's Lawrence of Arabia (1962)! With one very fascinating tidbit...

In the film from 1962 the role of General Allenby was played by Jack Hawkins. For The Lighthorsemen, produced some 20+ years later, the producer casted some "similar looking" actor from Australia by the name of Anthony Hawkins. And only later found out that he is actually the cousin of Jack Hawkins! Anthony's part of the family had emigrated to Oz. Well, no worries! ;)
