This is a 2CD set produced by NBC for their affiliate stations. It has a couple of selections by John Williams (The Mission theme and the Meet the Press theme, aka The Pulse of Events), edits of these themes, themes for NBC news programs by other composers, and other music related to NBC news coverage. The tracks are unlabled, so you will have to check the included liner note scans for selection titles. Note that CD 2 has several selections combined into single tracks.

Additionally, it has been discovered that the tracks on CD 1 have been mastered in such a way that results in them playing too fast and at a higher pitch. I have used the SoX utility to slow them back down, and so here is a link to the adjusted CD 1 FLACs:

There is something seriously wrong with the encoding of these tracks, at least for disc one. The sound quality is excellent, but the tracks are all playing way too fast.

That is how they are on the CD. Maybe they were sped up to save space?

Thanks, cgb!!

Seems the source material started at a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz, was incorrectly up-sampled to 48 kHz at some point (without maintaining pitch), and then "properly" re-sampled to 44.1 kHz (while maintaining the incorrect pitch) for the CD. This means that a speed/pitch correction of 0.91875 (44100/48000) is in order. In terms of semitones, that's -1.467 semitones.

Thanks for this! I have adjusted the tracks with the SoX utility and added a link to the new files in the original post.

hi, just a little question:

Cd1 on the booklet has 80 tracks, the disc 1 has it... ok.

Cd2 on the booklet has 116 tracks... but Disc 2 has 88 only !

Where are the other ones?

Great release! Honestly I ditched everything but tracks 1-8 and 40 on Disc 1 and all of Disc 2, but the tracks I did keep are essential John Williams gold IMHO.

Anyone know if something similar exists for the maestro James Horner and his CBS News Theme music work? I mean in the same awesome audio quality as this release? Thanks!
