Everyone likes comic strips! You know, stuff likes Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield... They're the only fun part of the newspaper!

In this thread you can talk about the best and the worst ones you've seen, and also recommend to others what ones to check out.

My favorites:

Cul de Sac

A fun little comic about a young girl named Alice and her surprisingly precocious friends, as they struggle in vain to understand the adult world.

http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/artsandliving/comics/cul-de-sac/gr/art-091309.gif

Cow and Boy

A more obscure comic about a boy named Billy and his cow. The best ones are when Billy ends up injuring himself.

My least favorite:

Reply All

This is an abomination of art. It looks like it was made by a person with literally no artistic talent in MS Paint. The woman who makes it seems to have no grasp on what this 'hoo-mor' concept is, and it really wears you down reading her strips. Look at this shit. I can't even figure out what the punchline is in half of them. If you Google "Reply All comic", it autofills in the word 'terrible'. I'm not making that up.

You know another terrible comic strip based on an otherwise well-liked property? Spider-Man. That comic strip is horrible.

There was a storyline a few years back where an ordinary butler somehow managed to capture Spider-Man and the lady he worked for. He tied them up and planned to throw them off a cliff. Then the moron set up a camera so that he could film the incident. I am not sure why he did this. Anyway, the dumbass ended up tripping over the camera and falling off the cliff himself, lol.

VG Cats had a good run.
http://www.vgcats.com/archive/

But that's not the one I'm thinking of...

I know there's memes that get posted on facebook countless times about:

Mario drop-kicking Yoshi to get to a higher level and Yoshi cries as he plummets to his death
another does the same but shows deep down below the screen about all the dead Yoshi's piling up
Something about Mario dying, gonig to hell and being tormented until he finally transforms into a Boo ghost where we see Luigi running through the mansion.

There were some really nice Mario strips like that. Some depressing. Some cynically funny.

I just can't remember or google well enough.

I honestly don't have a favorite comic strip. When I was in high school, the local paper had a comic every single day. It was in the sports section. Every place I've been to, including the place you're at, have all the wrong information.
There are 2 blurays: UK and AUS.
Whoever uploaded the "AUS" release just made a custom bluray.
AVC from AUS and AC3 from UK.

Really need to order it.
All everyone does is re-upload the hack job and never prove that it's AUS disc.

Transformers: The Movie (1986)

Guest voices: Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Robert Stack, Orson Welles, Scatman Crothers

And Frank Welker does Megatron. :awsm:

But, tbh, the animation looks like concept art, workprint, incomplete.
Like if ReBoot got a bigger budget and did nothing with it.

Batman Beware was another incomplete rendering but with good stories.

Cheap CG with great stories should be in comics, imo. They're better off as stills than animation.

I guess kids don't really care about production value, but stories are the main focus, what meaks you think kids will really sit still long enough to notice?

I hear it was INCREDIBLY violent for a kids show.

I don't know about incredibly. They were robots so it's not like there was blood and guts. It would have been incredibly violent if they had people parts I suppose.

One of the things that made it a really great show was that it didn't shy away from presenting the good guys vs bad guys conflict as something like actual warfare, though, which meant a huge percentage of characters really died, and in most cases the deaths were permanent. That and the show's character writing was extremely good, which meant that you actually really cared, it wasn't like they just killed off the throwaway characters.

It was one of those weird cases of lightning striking artistically. Like most kid-oriented action shows, it was in reality a toy commercial. It also suffered from 3D animation still being new for TV shows. These weaknesses actually ended up resulting in its greatest strength, the characters. They simply did not have the time or budget to render and animate all of the Beast Wars toy characters that were coming out. Only a small handful ever appeared on the show because that was literally all they could do. So unlike the original Transformers TV show, they could spend a great deal of time on developing any character they wanted to. This is also why characters actually died in the battle -- between seasons, they'd have to introduce new characters because new toys were coming out and the show was still technically a toy commercial. But the resources were still limited, so the only solution was to eliminate characters from season to season so new ones could be introduced.

That and the fact that they lucked into having some pretty good writers on the show means they were actually able to write something about interesting characters who were actually engaged in a meaningful sci fi war. The downside of course is that the show looks incredibly dated and clunky if you watch it today. The facial animations still hold up really well, but everything else looks like a PS2 game. Still worth watching for anyone who's interested in kids shows.

out of nostalgia i watched the first beast wars episode online, and then beast machines.
the difference is like sd and hd.
but MY HADES, machines is worse than i remembered. but ill still have to marathon it when i marathon beastwars because i dont like missing the complete story.

It was technically better looking, but the art style more than canceled out any benefit that might have provided.

How did I miss all this talk of Beast Wars? My youth right there.

Still have the toys, all my guys (and my brother's) are in a box. Except for the alligator version of Megatron. He's on my entertainment center right in front of my TV.

Rhinox.

Here's the comics page from an episode of Superman: The Animated Series. They're pretty hilarious actually.

Can you guess which comics they're parodying?
