The VVitch or "Something Wicked This Way Comes."
The Short Version: If you liked The Shining then you'll like The VVitch. Both feature families isolated because of the actions of a domineering father who mistakes might for right and whose pride and lies unleash some nasty forces both natural and supernatural. The film features fantastic performances by the adult performers but it's the child actors who are the marvel because so much of the story rests on their talents and they deliver. Add to that beautiful cinematography and a haunting score that reminds you of Kubrick's work with Wendy Carlos, The VVitch works as both a psychological drama on the effects of unchecked religious fervor in an isolated environment and on the power and patience of evil.
P.S.: if your tastes run to films with scares every few minutes you might want to see another film.
