I know what you mean! did you see those first PS3 pics yet? They look fantastic! I'm really looking forward to some major gaming innovations aswell as gorgeous graphics. Rikku and the gang are going to look fantastic if X-3 ever hits PS3!

Personally graphics aren't the most important thing for me. Sure alot of detail can be nice and such. But -the- most important aspect for a game would be the gameplay itself. Does it have a good story, nicely worked out characters, is the game worth it's money, is it still fun to play it again after you finished it. Etc etc.

What you fail to realise is that graphics will stagnate. If they get to a certain point of realism consoles will stop selling, because they won't be able to go further. It'll take another 10 years or so to hit it, but it will.

ricky
01-19-2005, 02:58 PM
well, i guess that's true actually. I doubt they'll stop to sell, but it will definately shrink the market to a hardcore base. I really hope the 'revolution' will offer something completely new and exciting!

im just wondering if virtual realty comes to consoles. And if it will be any good

the virtual boy failed, but it might still be a posibility. Technology has moved on considerably enough to be able to do it well. I'm all for it...if it doesn't give my a major headache!

Graphics r moving so fast we will have photo real etc before we know it. The first pc, Big as a room, can now fit on a chip as big as ur finger nail. =)
Look 10 years ago and now look at today. Think about that.

think about this. many millions of years ago, in a far away galixy, Star wars had light sabers and lazer guns. hover cars and giant robot killing machines. now look at us, we have gone backwards

As long as "PS" is around we can keep dreaming about that one =\

As for the whole "next gen" thing, I am honestly doubtful as to whether game designers will still be able to execute as good a games as they have done in this current generation and previous ones.

Holodecks would be cool :(

Especially if they malfunction all the time, like in Star Trek. Then we could be in mortal danger! Until Data does something cool and fixes it.

Data rocks.

I dont really look forward to a new generation of consols i think they should stop here..

Not really, but Sony seems to be the one one really doing well and the X Box is there also but it seems the days of Nintendo is fading.

I want more shooters. Good shooters with good multiplayer. I don't really want to think of the console itself I want to think of the games.

We have had a fair few good shooters this generation, actually!

- Timesplitters 1 and 2
- Halo 1 and 2
- Half-Life 1 and 2 (even if they don't have multiplayer, they are still the best shooters out)
- Killzone
- Doom 3
- Goldeneye: Rogue Agent

What are you talking about they both had a deathmatch mode that was very good but it didn't get played because of all of the great mods.

Actually, as long as laser-dependant disc drives are around, and cartridges still got a bang to make.

What?

Why does it seem like a lot of people are starting to believe that Nintendo is on a sinking ship that they won't be able to save themselves from?

Also, graphics really can't get much better than they are now. The main thing that will probably be done on these next-generation consoles is to put more shadowing effects into games, better facial expressions, and the like. Honestly, graphics are just fine as they are now. Sure, it's going to be neat to see how good they become within the next couple of years, but a beautiful game is crap unless it plays well.

Quite simply, Nintendo have lost their domination of the console market, and have some serious shit coming their way in the portable market. They are not as successful as they were in the days of the NES or the SNES.

Well yeah that's obvious. Of course they aren't as dominate as they used to be, but it's also partly because there wasn't nearly as much competition as there is now. But still, just because Nintendo has slipped, it just feels as if nobody has any faith in them anymore.

That's they way of the gaming industry, though - If a company falls, it falls hard. Just look at Atari - they were the gaming industry, until they fell. They've only recently managed to crawl back up by releasing anthologies of their old games and publishing new ones developed by other people.

When a games company starts to fail, it needs to do something pretty drastic (like stop making consoles - hello Sega) to survive.

Haha, I never even knew that Atari was even crawing back up.

Honestly, I think Nintendo realizes that they are in for a fight. Now, they don't believe that they are going to go out of business, because they have so much money right now. But they will take a devastating blow to their home consoles if Revolution isn't something extraordinary. I think that is why they are doing a system like this. It's more to not sink further than to get back on the top.

gaming its so unpredictable but it will only get better there are infinite ideas out there and the world is competitive if something kickass is released then others will only try to make something even better most will fail like losers but soem will suceed and so on we live in a golden age.

I think what I'm looking forward to the most is the complete elimination of loading times.

Aslong next gen systems will be using DVDs and in the near future upgraded versions of them, games will ALWAYS have loading times, simply because the date is spread among the disc and needs to be read. Unless they go back to the cartridge system, loading times will never be eleminated, onle shortend.

Extended time with the DS has made me lose some faith with them. I hope they show the NRevolution at E3 and prove me wrong. Or the GBA2, god knows what the plan is for that though.

I maintain the dreamcast was the best console released, ever. There were so few games on it that weren't high-FPS and crisp, it was incredible. Get an s-video cable and it'd rattle down the street. That, and it had some fantastic games on it. Hello, Soul Calibur (better than 2), Marvel Versus Capcom 2 (Better than the other conversions), Chu Chu Rocket (FREE!), any of the ikaruga-type games, tech romancer, Res Evil: Code Veronica, Maken X (Okay, I liked it) and Power Stone 2.

I'm a true dreamcast fanboy.

Oh they'll be eliminated one day.

One day, instead of disks, we will begin to use data-cubes. Just small cubes that will be inserted into the system and, while inside of the system will be melted down to liquid form, and instead of the reader inside of the system moving to find the data, the data needed will move to the reader. This will be so quick, because the data is all in liquid form that there will be no loading times. Then when you're done playing the game, the system will harden the cube again and you'll be able to pull it out and put it into your little case.

I think someone purchased the Atari name, actually. Seems like it was Activision.

The Revolution is rumored to have gyration technology, which tracks human motion and translates it into linear movement of computer graphic images.
