Thanks for this. I still own the LP of the original release, which has a much more attractive cover:

This was an independently financed album, paid for by a group of German Rzsa fans. It was an expensive flop. Thus, there was never a Volume 2.

Hi wimpel69, thank you for this cover. It is beautiful and much better I agree. I will add it to my collection.

Cheers Judy

Ah, didn't realize that this is the same recording. This Antares Records release is part of my LP collection, too. How much is this worth today, I wonder?

Thanks for this very curious recording. Have you got the reverse cover to explain it a bit more? As far as I can tell - even though it is credited as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - it is mainly brass, organ & percussion. I can't hear any woodwind or strings. The delightful Fantasy on Themes from "Young Bess" is almost a concerto piece for organ & brass. Christopher Bowers-Broadbent (father of Harry Broadbent) is excellent here. What is its provenance? I have a suspicion that it could be a reworking by the late Christopher Palmer. The original LP was from 1985 (Antares MR-01) as wimpel69 has shown. As well as the Bay Cities release it was further released in the 1997 by Otadel (STC 77111) with an additional 2 tracks (The World, The Flesh & The Devil Overture + Because of Him Overture both recorded by the Utah Symphony Orchestra conducted by Elmer Bernstein and recorded in the presence of the composer).

The Fantasy from Young Bess was prepared by Christopher Palmer under supervision of Rzsa, especially for this album.

Only the Royal PO brass and winds were used ("concert band", as it's known in America and Britain).
