Is it possible to have a second Magnum Opus? If so, do you have Magnum Opi? Anyway...following along the lines of The Star Wars Symphony, I have decided to tackle my other favorite Sci-Fi franchise, Star Trek. At least, the movies anyway since I'm not even sure where I'd begin with the TV shows! (Maybe one day?)
This has been a little more difficult to compile when compared to Star Wars because with Star Trek there's no single storyline or narrative that encompasses the entire franchise, not to mention contributions by multiple composers as opposed to the one for Star Wars. So I've focused on the narrative from each film, finding various themes and motifs as well as key moments from the story. There was a little crossover between Star Trek II and Star Trek III (for obvious reasons to Trek fans), as well as including a Klingon movement that features the music of both Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner.
Just like The Star Wars Symphony, the purpose of The Star Trek Symphony is to introduce newcomers to the wonderful music of this franchise. It seems only fitting that I do this for Star Trek's 50th Anniversary which is being celebrated this year! I hope by the end of the year to expand this with music from the new movie, Star Trek Beyond.
