Splicing of OST "Main Title" with FYC "The Attack on the Jakku Village, Part 1".

Bitrate: Lossless
Format: FLAC
Tracks: 1
Duration: 6:52

Note:

05/20/17: NEW lossless edit.

It's only a fraction of a second more, but this edit with the itsy bitsy push-off most closely approximates the segue from Main Title to "Starry Night".

Supplemental: Curious to know the reason the main title was left off in the first place.

Note: A look at the waveform reveals the OST was mastered for LOUDNESS.

Tragic, but not unexpected. Thanks for the edit!

Curious to know the reason the main title was left off in the first place.

Because the Main Title is just the same cue from the original star wars and was not scored for TFA.

Are you sure about this? The Main Title sounded like a completely different and all-together brand-new recording to me in the theater. Sounded nothing like the main titles recorded for ANH, TESB, RotJ or TPM.

But its still the same cue, just re-recorded for the film.. its not a piece of original score written for this specific film, which is one of the stipulations for a score to be qualified for the Oscar.

Yes, there is a difference in orchestration, but Faleel used the word "scored", as in: composed for the film, which it obviously wasn't.

Still doesn't make sense. Han and Leia's theme, the Force Theme, and the infamous end credits intro is all included on the FYC. Probably more I am missing.

It is newly recorded but I think what Faleel means is that it is music written for a previous Star Wars film and probably dose not need to be presented on a FYC

I'm just guessing, but maybe it has to do with Gustavo Dudamel? The CD booklet shows him as "Special Guest Conductor" for Main Title, The Starkiller, March of the Resistance, and Finale. The FYC cover lists Williams as Composer and Conductor.

Well whoever made the FYC cover is wrong. William Ross conducted most of it.

And The Starkiller and Finale are on here, so.....busted.

The FYC cover is fan made, not a legitimate promo cover for the FYC. And that still doesn't explain why Finale is here then, but it shouldn't matter. We should be complaining about why music we already have wasn't included on the FYC. I'm happy we have a lot of this score now. :)

The only time the main title recording was re-used verbatim was for the prequels.

They recorded it once for Episode 1 and re-used it for 2 and 3.

So some tracks need cropping/editing.....

I might do this... the problem is I'm sure the spliced bits will stand out since the two discs are - I assume - mixed differently.

For example, when I mixed a Thor 2 OST track with end credits from the Blu-ray, I had to do a lot of extra stuff to both tracks to get them to transition seamlessly.

The sonic difference between the performance by the Hollywood Symphony and the London Symphony is quite striking; that, and the amount of reverb in the recording.

Also, I do find the forward mix of the opening triangle roll somewhat distracting. Sounds like a fire alarm.

Regrettably, until the sessions magically appear with a stand alone version of Awakens' main title track, the segue will still be missing about 2-3 seconds of the titles properly fading into the entrance of the Jakka Village track. And bringing the Jakka Village track in earlier simply doesn't work.

I know who I hope gets a hold of a true lossless version... It would be a great adventure.

Gururu, did you apply any volume normalization, or something, on your edited track? I'm hearing some odd volume things that I haven't noticed on the other fyc tracks.

No, I left it alone.

Sure, I toyed with normalization, but had I gone that route I would have had to apply the same normalization to the entire FYC to avoid the dramatic perceptual difference between Jakku Part 1 and Jakku Part 2.

Because the main titles naturally fade away, segueing to the FYC Jakku Part 1 doesn't present as great a perceptual difference between how the OST is mastered and how the FYC isn't.

Still those 2 or 3 seconds missing from the main title fade out are apparent; it's subtle, but all too obvious when you're looking for it. I briefly attempted to improvise the missing seconds last night before I reminded myself I should really go back to work.

UPDATED: Mixdown 2 with improvised extension to Main Title fade out for subtler segue. See original post.

Supposedly there will be an expanded 2 CD set next year in the beginning of 2016. Should be pretty nice if this news is legitimate.

Any chance you could make the Main Title a separate track with a clean ending?

I've had this done since I was doing my edit, I hope its satisfactory.

The bridge between the main theme and every "curtain raise" is based on Princess Leia's theme, and I've yet to uncover a version of her theme from which I could extract a sample with approximate orchestration to construct a clean fade out.

YES!

This is why I returned to the forum.

So many works can easily by overlooked.

Your work, I look forward to.
And cry about when it comes to the end of Ep. VII.
That whole scene is enough to want to see it all again.

New entirely lossless, and more accurate edit, available upon request.

It has me pondering doing a complete score edit.
