What do you think was the best theme in the MCU?
Personally, I think The Avengers theme and Iron Man 3 theme are both very strong themes. Iron Man 3 was a very strong theme that was literally everywhere in Brian Tyler's Iron Man 3. It was everything a superhero theme should be. Using it in Avengers: Age of Ultron was just supplementary to that fact. (hopefully Henry Jackman can use it in Captain America: Civil War)
Alan Silvestri's Avengers theme is great, can't really decide if I like it better than Iron Man. Alan's single greatest contribution to MCU is that theme, and hopefully we can see his legacy through the next decade of Avengers films. Problem is it was used too sparingly in The Avengers. If his theme had been used even half as many times as Tyler's Iron Man 3 theme was in the aforementioned film, it would be even more iconic. But luckily that was rectified with the sequel, with Danny Elfman's beautiful evolution and adaptation of the theme.
Haven't seen Guardians of the Galaxy, but I've heard snippets of the theme. I don't think this theme stacks up to the other two, but it is a good theme. Don't know how much variation can be made on it, or how much it was used in the score for that film. Maybe it needs someone like Elfman to really show its colors.
I haven't listened to all of Alan Silvestri's The First Avenger, but from what I can tell his Captain America theme is all over that score. It is a good theme... maybe better than Tyler Bates' theme for GotG. Can't decide, but the atmosphere of Silvestri's Captain America score as a whole takes the cake. Vintage patriotic orchestra really do sound nice.
Have heard the Main Title Theme for Ant-Man, the first track on the soundtrack for aforementioned film and what I think is the credits music (the last song on that album composed by Christophe Beck), and there's room for that to be a good motif. Maybe I'm too quick to judge, but it really doesn't hold a candle to the themes by Tyler and Silvestri. But maybe it doesn't have to be.
Haven't heard all of Brian's Thor: The Dark World score, just the first track with the title of the same name. It's a good theme, but still not as variable and motif-able as my two favorites. Don't know how well the theme is represented in the rest of the score. Just haven't had the time to sit and listen to the score, which is a shame really. I consider Brian to be one of my favorite composers (although his work on Age of Ultron is unfortunately overshined by Danny's seamless adaptation of Silvestri's theme from the first film).
I've heard John Debney's theme (at least, what I think is the theme) for Iron Man 2. Is it good? Maybe. But I don't know if it is represented throughout the rest of the score. For one, I think the general sound of that score is very... abrasive. Too many electric guitars and loud synth sounds for my taste. Do I even like John Debney? Zathura was great... so he's sure capable of making a great theme and stating it throughout the work. What do you think?
As for Ramin Djawadi and Patrick Doyle's scores for Iron Man and Thor respectively... I've heard they have no identity. And searching YouTube for a "theme" for either movie comes up short... not a promising sign. Is there a theme for these movies? Are they worth listening to?
I've heard Henry Jackman's theme for The Winter Soldier... not impressed. It's not hummable by any means, seems too short to really get it in my head. Seems like its just three horn notes. And no connection to Silvestri's previous Captain America theme, which doesn't satisfy me in terms of musical consistency. Kind of bummed they went with him for Civil War and not Tyler or even Silvestri. I think my dreams of overall MCU musical consistency with stable themes for all the main characters just went out into the backyard and shot itself.

Thoughts?

Doyle's Thor theme is heard in "Sons of Odin", and it's pretty good! The only MCU score I don't like is Djawadi's Iron Man, but the theme is heard in the cue "Driving with the top down" I believe. Also you forgot one of my favorites, Craig Armstrong's Incredible Hulk. The Theme is great and so is the score, one of his best!
I think you're right about Tyler and Silvestri, they probably have the best themes in the MCU. I love the Avengers theme and Iron Man 3. That being said, I think I love Elfman's New Avengers theme even more.

Damn, I should've remembered. That is a very nice theme. Will definitely listen to Craig's score when I get the chance. Doyle's theme is alright. I'm curious: any particular reason why you don't like Djawadi's Iron Man score?

Except for a few cues here and there, I don't like Djawadi's music. That being said before Guardians of the Galaxy, I never liked anything from Tyler Bates, so there's still hope for Djawadi :)
Guardians as a whole is an ok score, but has some really good moments. I listen to the end credits suite quite often, same for Jackman's Winter Soldier, you don't need much else.

Here's a thought: To me, the theme of Captain America in "Winter Soldier" is in the beginning of the track "Lemurian Star". It's the horns that does it for me. :)
And I also noticed, a few months ago, that the two-notes you hear in the beginning of the "Lemurian Star" track is based on a brief moment of the track "Vitarays" from "The First Avenger" soundtrack.

Just listen to these examples:
1. "Lemurian Star" (from 00:15 to 00:23) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOPonJDIQFI
2. "Vitarays" (from 02:46 to 02:53) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI3R-gniTPw

There is at least one non-obvious musical Leitmotif that bridges the two movies together, shown by the examples above.
At first I thought Henry Jackman started from scratch, but this got me thinking that he had to have listened to the "First Avenger" score before writing for the "Winter Soldier" movie, and this is also why I like both soundtracks equally - mainly because they represents two different era for Cap. Two sides of the same coin, if you will..
