This is an expanded version that appeared briefly on John Lasher’s Label X in 2008. Being a big fan of the score, I snapped it up. But the extra tracks were of variable quality, and even one of the previously released tracks sounded worse here than on the earlier album. So, disappointed, I sold it.

However, I did keep a CD-R copy. I also did some work on the bonus tracks - my memory may be faulty but I think the volume on the left or right channels was too low, so I fixed that. And I went back to the earlier CD for the 10 previously released tracks.

There was one more bonus track on the CD, "The Cardinal's Jackal" - but it was in such poor quality that it felt like the musical equivalent of a poke in the eye every time I played it, so I didn’t keep that track. Sorry!

Anyway, here’s a somewhat expanded version of Lalo Schifrin’s terrific THE FOUR MUSKETEERS. Artwork, as usual, is my own.

Legend has it that Michel Legrand, who scored the original The Three Musketeers, thought that Schifrin's sequel score was so poor he offered to re-score the film for free!

OTOH, another story has it that Legrand squandered so much of the music budget on the first film (film simultaneously with this one) that Schifrin had only a tiny orchestra at his disposal for The Four Musketeers.

I actually like Schifrin's score (he reworked some of the material for his Guitar Concerto), but - truth be told - Legrand's score is infinitely superior. ;)
