Released in 2007, this is an anthology of jazz-flavoured themes for Spanish crime films made between 1958 and 1964, usually by Barcelona-based filmmakers such as Julio Coll, Francesc Rovira-Beleta, Juan Bosch, Ignacio F. Iquino and Jos Mara Nunes, as well as some Madrid figures, namely Julio Buchs and Jos Mara Forqu. They were all shot in black and white and many of them were conceived as vehicles for the actor Arturo Fernndez.

The music is sometimes combined with dialogue and sound effects. All of the composers represented here were Catalan, but not necessarily active in Catalonia. The most represented figure here is Jos Sol (1930-2009) who would usually compose the whole score himself, although sometimes share the credit with the esteemed Xavier Monsalvatge, the latter of whom would be in charge of the non-jazz music. Other composers present here are Augusto Alguer (1934-2011), best known as a songwriter and pop arranger; Federico Martnez Tud (1907-1975), and Enrique Escobar (1921-2004) who served as accountant and house composer for Ignacio F. Iquinos IFI company from 1961 onwards.

The legend on the back cover reads:

Towards the end of the fifties, Spanish cinema began a process of modernisation in order to be more in accordance with the trends that were dominant in Europe. This change was felt in both the scripts and the music scores, which included jazz for the first time. The music on this CD can be heard along with fragments of the original dialogue, which tinges the scores with an element of tension and mystery. Elsewhere, we have decided to leave the music speak for itself. Either way, listeners will be able to remember and listen to the jazz music that marked the beginnings of Spanish crime cinema.

Im sorry but I still dont know how to upload images here. For images of the disc, see:

And thanks for the poster and cover links. Makes me want to see about getting hold of some. of the DVD's (hope there's english subtitles there).
Well I'm off to Amazon now.
Thanks again for the share. Appreciated.

If you like, tommorrow, I'll post instructions of how it's done.
It's not that difficult, but it is a proceedure that I actually got from this thread somewhere, but forget where.
But I'll try and explain as best I can tommorrow.
Hope this helps.

To get images from any web site onto your post, ( this is using windows 7)(and remember that this is only for images from a web page, not from your own computer files) first

1. make sure that your image is showing on a web page of it's own. (just right click on any image from the web and press 'view image' )

2. copy the whole address (eg. from your first image which was the cover )

3. go to your thread/post reply box and at the top row of icons and press the third from the right icon (should show up as 'insert image' when your mouse pointer hovers over it)
4. that should bring a 'insert image box'.
5. click on the 'From ulr' tag, which should bring up a blank text input (with ULR just above it)
6. should you find the box suddenly jump to the 'from computer' box just reclick the 'from ULR' tag and that should bring you back. (that happened a few times to me.)
7. Paste your saved/copied web address in the text space.
8. Most important now is that you now untick the 'Retrieve remote file and reference locally' box - or the whole thing won't work.
9. With the address pasted in, and the 'Retrieve remote file and reference locally' unticked, press ok.

10. if you're going to put another image under that one, I should click the enter from your key board to have a line blank or the next picture/s will end up smack under the previous one.

Hope this helps.
If I've confused anyone, feel free to query or correct me.

Thanks, Guideff, for the advice and for the uploading of images.
Regarding the films themselves, the ones starring Arturo Fernndez are out. They are, in fact, part of an Arturo Fernndez pack. A TIRO LIMPIO is also on DVD. So are some Barcelona crime films not represented here, such as Iquino's BRIGADA CRIMINAL (music for small string ensemble by a very young Augusto Alguer). And others turn up on Spanish TV and have been recorded by fans, such as Julio Coll's NUNCA ES DEMASIADO TARDE (moody music by Xavier Monsalvatge, best known for his piano concerto and his cycle of West Indian songs, famously recorded by Montserrat Caball and Sigi Weissenberg). But subs no: there are no English-friendly versions of these films as yet, as far as I know. Too bad: Coll's DISTRITO QUINTO (scored by Monsalvatge) is, IMO, such a good film... And I wish a decent version came out of Miquel Iglesias Bonns's THE FUGITIVE FROM ANTWERP, starring Howard Vernon as, rarely, a romantic lead (of sorts). I only have a VHS transfer of this.

Normally I try not to download soundtracks from films that I haven't seen. In this case, I may have to make an exception and work backwards. Thanks for this curiosity, Astuarco!

Could you send me your email by PM, please? I'll send it to you by WeTransfer.

Looking back on it, I find it a lopsided selection: lots of Sol, not enough Martnez Tud.
