Twilight Time continue their fascinating presentation of isolated scores on their Blu Rays with David Whitaker’s memorably jazzy music for the love-it-or-hate-it cult horror/science fiction movie SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN. It’s all in mono, and, of course, there are the usual massive volume dips that I so love to fix :)

It’s fairly evident from the way tracks are dialled in and out that Whitaker originally wrote longer cues, particularly for the big chase in the middle of the film. Maybe we’ll get to hear the unedited score some day, but for now this is a nice presentation.

Some cues are repeated frequently in the film (“Welcome To The Police State” and “Supernormal Death Grip” in particular) but I haven’t included those repeats… with one exception. The climactic fight between bad guys (Vincent Price and Marshall Jones) is scored with a portion of “Running Up That Cliff” but the isolated track is missing this cue. Rather than have the score end on all the suspense music that appears in the final scenes, I’ve used the earlier cue here as a replacement for the missing one.

There’s audible dialog bleedthrough in some of the quieter moments, but I managed to eliminate a lot of this by using sections of the repeated cues. Some ghostly voices remain, though.

The two songs by The Amen Corner that appear in the nightclub sequence are included on the isolated track, but they are heavily drenched in the cavernous reverb of the underground club, so I thought I would track down some mp3s of the original album versions. Fellow shriner rexkramer77 beat me to the punch and presented lossless versions of the songs on his own Scream And Scream Again Blu Ray thread (still available here (Thread 196173)). With his kind permission I’ve included those FLAC versions of the songs.

The film’s final score cue (“It’s Just Beginning”) segues abruptly into a reprise of the “Scream And Scream Again” song for the end credits. I’ve often wished they had used a short version of the Main Title instead of the song, so - mainly for my own amusement - I created a fictitious Finale/End Credits that rounds off the score more satisfyingly with a brief reprise of that dynamic main theme. It’s included here in case anyone else feels the same way. Enjoy :)

Unfortunately, no. These releases are quite expensive so I have to really love the score (or the movie). I've seen Yorga once, back in the day, but I don't have a clear memory of the score.

It was a better book in its day... left more to the imagination... the film is a cheap 70s flick that doesn't hold up. Not very re-memorable- I doubt the music is.

I watched the movie and only screamed once - I want my money back! In the meantime, thanks in advance for your retooled soundtrack, FTC. I'm sure it will be creme de la creme...or screame de la screame. ;)
