For some reason, I can't play ffIX on PS2. Has anyone else had any problems like this? At first, I thought it was my PS2 that wasn't working right, but I tried it on someone else's, and the same thing happened. It goes to a red screen and says, "Please insert a PS or PS2 format disc." It makes me very mad.

I'm not sure if it's just disc 1, or if its the others, too. I'll try the other discs and post.

Update: Disc 2 and 3 work, but not 1 and 4. Do you think it could be that the discs are scratched up?

It's probably your disc, if it didn't work in someone elses PS2.
All my ps one games work perfectly on my ps2...

Other PS games work on my PS2 perfectly, too. I guess it's the discs, like you said, barret.wallace. Thank you. :) I'll have to buy a new one. :(

I hate it when PSone games break, they are so much harder to find then ps2 games...

It's no problem, anytime ^_^

Well, I fixed disc one, I washed it with soap and water, and now it works. :) I guess the problem was dirt and dust. I hope I can fix the other, too.

It may also be your PS2. Eventually, most PS2 units will start getting 'Disc Read Error' messages when attempting to run PSX games and early PS2 titles (which are on CDROM), due to dust and grime build-up on the lens and laser unit.

Sometimes cleaning it with a CD lens cleaner will work, but generally the only way to fix it is to send it in to Sony for cleaning (it's a free service I'm assured, although you do have to pay for postage and packing). You can clean the lens and laser unit yourself, but the process is rather complex so I wouldn't recconmend it to novice players (if you're interested there are FAQs online you can read about it.).

Yea, Ive been gettin disk read error messages a lot lately. Finaly felt like playin some old PS2 stuff and BAM! 6 tries to get the disk to load! But fortunately FF8 works....I really should be playing Metal Gear Solid 3 that I got for Christmas, but damn the greatness of FF8! O and if you ever get disk read error dont get pissed off when it takes a while to work, do lots of spitting-rubbing- and blowing....and that wasnt a sexual inuendo!

I don't have problems playing my PSX games on my PS2.

However after playing a PSX game for 5 minutes my screen goes a bit fuzzy and shakes a little.

This happens to all PSX games.

MY PS2's been getting DRE's too. I tried to play my Suikoden II CD, and it took 1-4 tries to get it to play. Same thing happens when I try to play a PSX game too. :-(

It does work but you have to wait 10mins for every battle and screen to load.
