Who did the trailer music, by the way? Has a Brian Tyler-vibe to it. Tyler did the trailer music for another JW-film - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so maybe that's why I thought of him ;)

Thats clearly John Williams' score. Not a synth version of anything. Its the Han Solo and Princess Leia love theme and a new version of the Star Wars theme with drums added.

But Tyler didn't do the trailer music for Indy 4, they just used preexisting music of his for it. There is a difference.

John Williams is the composer for the film and did the music for the previous two teasers. The music in this one is made of obvious variations of themes from the original scores, but other artists may have contributed in some way to this particular version. Time will tell.

He has a SoundCloud site, so I grabbed the MP3 from there.
No silence and not transcoded from a lossy source.

Youtube uses AAC, so FFMPEG should have been used to copy AAC to new m4a container with a trim enabled to remove silence.
No transcoding, so first-generation lossy encode still intact.

SoundCould of the cover:

Here's a proper edit of the youtube video.

downloaded 1080p MP4 (720p/1080p are encoded with higher quality AAC by youtube).
Used FFMPEG to trim silence and just copy AAC audio to new m4a container:

ffmpeg -i "Star Wars VII- The Force Awakens - Trailer Music Cover - YouTube.mp4" -map 0:1 -ss 00:06.500 -acodec copy output.m4a

AAC, proper edit, avg: 126kbps
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tx3y0pkar96yljm/swe7_Music%20Only%20%28cover%29.m4a?dl=0

Note that AAC is much more efficient than MP3.
AAC with average of 126kbps is far better than MP3@128.
In MP3 terms, AAC@126 is more like MP3@160-192.
It's 2015, afterall. MP3 needs to go full obsolete.

Not sure what you mean.
The stems actually flucuate (dip and rise). Stereo music or 5.1 final/film_mix.

No matter the trailer, they're all dipping in volume.

Thats clearly John Williams' score. Not a synth version of anything. Its the Han Solo and Princess Leia love theme and a new version of the Star Wars theme with drums added.

First, this is clearly not Williams' score for the new movie. Anyone who has listened to his music over the decades can tell that this is just not him. It's great that people like the music in the trailer but, I've been rather shocked at how many people think this is the new score. If you want to know what the score will sound like then listen to the other 6 Star Wars scores or the countless other compositions from Williams' over the past 55 years. This trailer is not his style at all, not even close. After composing for over 100 movies, he's not going to suddenly change his style this drastically. I'm not talking about just the use of synths, I'm talking about the actual structure of the music. This is just not the way Williams writes, this is not from the new score.

Second, anyone that is familiar with real orchestral music can tell that this trailer is 90% synth. You can believe what you want to believe but, that is not an orchestra.

Slightly disappointed it's not Williams. After six films, it would be nice to see him step out of his wheelhouse a little bit. Don't get me wrong, his work on this series is of course some of the all-time greatest, but almost forty years into the franchise would be a good time to introduce new elements.

Zimmer is perfect for the trailer, Williams is perfect for the movie, I think. The trailer begins with new unknown music, but when the love theme from Episode V appears together with the Millenium Falcon, it gives me goosebumps, is a theme so romantic and yet so nostalgic, evocative.

I think that for jj abrams, directing a star wars movie is a big responsibility, in terms of being up to par with john williams' music.

I forgot, also so many thank you guys for the work with the trailer!

Which hardly describes the music in this trailer. And an artist of Williams' caliber -- one of, if not the greatest of all time -- could bring new elements into the score without having that happen. He introduced electric guitars into Attack Of The Clones without the sky falling.

Frederick Lloyd, director and composer for films, TV, trailers and media, has since come forward on Twitter to announce that he contributed music to the latter half of the trailer, namely the Force Theme.
