I admit, the only reason i got this game, was because of the artwork by Kosuke Fujishima (Oh! My Goddess, You're Under Arrest and Sakura Wars fame.). My initial opinion of this game was rather lack lustre, and I'd appreciate your thoughts as to what you all thought of it.

Greg, trust me when I say this:

Tales of Symphonia is arguably the best game out for the GCN right now, and possibly the best RPG. There are so many twists to the game that I was honestly shocked when I found out the truth about Kratos and others. The battle system is the most enjoyable in a game I have ever experienced. This game is truly beautiful.

It starts off in a very generic vein, but stick with it. I am finding it immensely enjoyable. It is far better than any RPG I have played in at least 3 or 4 years.

I thought this game was one of the best RPGs i have ever played. the plot twists where unexspected. And I hated that methoes your freind ends up being the final boss wich was extreamly disapinting he was weak I tell you weak.

And did any one find loyids outfit with the eye patch?

Fabulous !

I found the beginning very much like FFX which put me off a bit but once I stuck with it I enjoyed it immensely. Although I found the plot twists to be very predictable it was still a great storyline.

Collecting the titles (especially those that changed the outfits), figurines, monster data, recipes and techs is fun. The Katz mini-games are a bit stupid but there's other fun things, like the waitress game with Colette.

I love the battle system. At first it seemed kinda clumsy, just slash, slash, slash but when you've got access to more techs, u-attacks and are fighting tougher bosses then it requires more skill.

Great game! The start is a bit slow, but after one of the bigger plot twists it turns into a great storyline and a cool adventure.

The battles are great ^__^ Especially with all the skills you can learn.

I havn't had a chance to play this (so called) "masterpiece" (I've been hooked on Final Fantasy VI) but I definately want to. I've heard that the battle system is spectacular. Can anyone tell me which battle system "Tales of Symphonia" resembles the most? Thanks.

The thing is, Square have been making RPG's since the NES, and they have gradually got better and better at it. And then Namco comes all long, and makes it first RPG (as far as i know) and make a kick ass one!

Nope, they just published Xenosaga. Monolith Soft was the developer.

I have no idea if Namco ever developed other RPGs before Tales of Symphonia though.

I thought Tales of Symphonia was a good game though the battle system reminded me of Star Ocean 3 till the end of time

Your post was unsupported by factual information. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that it isn't proven.

EDIT: Interesting... some other RPGs developed by Namco over the years prior to ToS include Dragon Valor (apparently quite an atrocity), Seven (which was their first PS2 title), Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2, Klonoa Heroes, and Klonoa: Empire of Dreams. I guess this means that you were completely wrong.

I love this game, I'm having to start it all over again because my memory card needed to be formatted but I'm not bothered, I still love it! For those who wanted to know about the battle system, it does have slight similarities to Star Ocean but it's much better, you have more control over the different attacks you use and the guarding is much better.

They aren't childish, just anime. And if you actually get the game, you will find that the graphics are beautifully worked into the game, and that you won't even think that they are childish anymore.

The graphics were pretty good if you ask me, although I was dissapointed with the lack of anime style movies in the game, it could probably have done with a few more.

Yeah, I was disappointed in this as well. I saw beautiful FMV during the opening sequence before you even begin a game, and it would have been great if those and more were included.

I think they added a couple more into the P.S.2 version ( Colette's first transformation as one ) but I don't know if there's any plans for an E.U. release, which sucks.
