Yes, I just found out the site was hacked yesterday and the vanishing "likes" are a consequence of that. Hope they can restore it, it was a nice feature.

There's something wrong with this CD rip. It's being reported as being in 24-Bit whereas CD audio is 16-Bit. Something weird going on here ...

Hmm... I imported this CD directly onto my Mac via iTunes as AIFF files, then converted them to FLAC using Audacity.

I just took a look at my Audacity settings for exporting FLAC files, and it's set to 24-bit. There is a 16-bit option as well. I exported a test file in 24 and 16, and noticed the 24 bit version ending up being twice as big as the 16 bit.

Perhaps in future I should always export FLAC as 16-bit? It would save a lot of room (not to mention upload time)!

Converting from 16-Bit to 24-Bit is considered a No - No with CD rips.

Why?

Well it doesn't make sense because it's 16-Bit, not 24-Bit, so all you are doing is making the file bigger without any gain in quality etc. and it is possible the conversion is degrading the sound, if not initially then definitely when converting back to 16-Bit for CD burning.

So yeah you shouldn't do that in the future. In fact Audacity shouldn't be used at all simply to go from WAV / AIFF to FLAC. I don't have a MAC but surely there are freeware program that can do that conversion for you.

And if you want to get really PROPER then you should rip on a MAC using XLD as it is the only program I am aware of that can properly rip audio CD's on a MAC computer.
