Its Trevor Duncan all the way with this one. The bulk of the score comes from three suites: The Challenge of Space, Four Evil Men and Mutations. Filling in the gaps is a lone Paroxysm, used in parts one and two when things take a turn for the creepy, and the fantastic Vision from the final scene and closing credits. This last one is a sod to track down. In fact I havent, and this versions been pulled from the DVD.

As usual there are a couple of unidentified tracks - neither of them major this time, and both featured music rather than incidental. Firstly, the TV breakdown music from part 6 is listed as With Noble Purpose on the production paperwork. A track called With Noble Purpose Grand March is available but its not the one from Quatermass. With Noble Purpose might have been a suite (meaning were after a different track with the same name), or someone wrote down the wrong title altogether. Which would hardly be a first. [EDIT: The correct track is here (http://www.mediafire.com/download/n8hl30y7m5a5qw6/With+Noble+Purpose+%28Theme%29.zip)]

The other missing track is the NYTV ident, also from part 6, which could easily have come from a BBC sound effects disc, and, to be honest, Im not losing any sleep about it.

One thing thats missing altogether is the Radiophonic Workshops unused version of the theme tune. It still exists, along with 3 reels of sound effects, and Id like them released today, please.

The running order mirrors the first appearance of each cue in the serial - almost. Ive moved the second Foul Noises Sent by the Devil (it's a quote!) and The Killer - partly to reduce repetition, partly to better reflect the flow of the story. Sometimes I hate myself.

A few of these tracks have never had a CD release and are unfortunately from mp3. CD, vinyl and DVD sources have been used for the remainder.

EXTRA BITS

Also included is a rip of the Live From a Quarry CD the soundtrack to the self-proclaimed live hypertheatre spectacular version from 1997. (They werent allowed to use the word Quatermass on the CD cos the BBC can copyright a surname, apparently.) Anyway, its by the man who wrote Bob the Builder: Can We Fix It? Do not be alarmed its great!

Also within is the last track from The Challenge of Space suite: Celestial Glory its not featured in any of the Q serials, but it does appear to be a close blood relative of Cathedral: Vision. That Trevor Duncan had a sneaky way of recording the same track multiple times for multiple libraries.

The Soundtrack to The Quatermass Experiment is here ( http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/quatermass-experiment-bbc-1953-soundtrack-flac-193341/#post3044941).

And Quatermass II is here ( Thread 191161).

Not one of mine, but to complete the set here's feedthecats' very nice rip of Quatermass IV / The Conclusion / The ITV One from 1979 (Thread 192917).

It's a wonderful score. I refuse to believe there's no demand for a proper release of this stuff (and the fact people here keep downloading it rather proves the point). I'd buy a proper release tomorrow. Someone pull their fingers out!

I did put this to a few appropriate people - one a BBC bod and one an independent who has released library music before (it's not fair to name them, but you'd guess straight away), but neither seemed interested. It doesn't appear to generate the revenue a release needs to have these days.

Sorry - I've downloaded but I just haven't got to this or QII yet. I'm sure they're brilliant, though! I'm on a week's hols next week, so 'll take them with me.

Happy hols!

My QII upload, as of today, has had 142 downloads in two-and-a-bit months. Which is probably tiny compared to some things here, but I think it's more than any Dr Who upload of mine has got in a similar time period. And Dr Who does quite well commercially, I'm told!

With Noble Purpose - Trevor Duncan

...the TV breakdown music from part 6 is listed as With Noble Purpose on the production paperwork. A track called With Noble Purpose Grand March is available but its not the one from Quatermass...

The correct version is With Noble Purpose (Theme). Thanks to GinjaNinja for tracking it down. It's never appeared on CD; here it is from a 1971 Harmonic compilation album:
