interesting comments folks do when they give rep-points

Can I ask you to remove that picture?
We don't need to provoke anything further from it.

You could PM one of us mods about it.
More likely Jessie. He might have better access to find out who repped you as such.
I don't think there's a way to report reps like that.
But since it's more of a system design and not inherent to the film download/request section, I can't figure out who repped you as such.

Can you PM Jessie to ask about it?

Dirty laundry shouldn't be done in public.

I'm going to delete posts as they shouldn't be publicized.
The only reason to post is to provoke someone.
It's completely unnecessary.

One person says something, then 10 more need to say the exact same thing in different words.
Things always escalate.

So please drop the subject and leave it to OP and whomever can deal with it, privately.

It's not just 5 seconds of Ads. Often there are no ads. It is an attempt to install a virus into your computer.

And ostgems is being PAID to flog other people's work and screw you at the same time. He's been told and continues to do it.

Now maybe you are fully SECURITIZED-UP and feel it is relatively risk free. And you might be right. But that doesn't change the fact that ostgems is using this to make money, without caring less about the damage caused. He wants to risk YOUR entire home network for the five cents he'll make. Literally.

Not to mention it's from something that's not his to make anything from in the first place. Even if these were just all harmless ads, ostgems is doing the wrong thing by everyone.

Don't encourage him any further.

I've only given this a single listen-through so far, but I have to admit I'm disappointed. Sounds very similar to Giacchino's, which is not what I was expecting (or wanting). Jack Reacher had a darker, more mature quality that I prefer and was hoping for. The excessive quotations of the M:I theme is also rather grating and gets old after awhile. Zimmer's score is still my favorite (or rather, it's the only one I really enjoy) because it moved away from the traditional M:I soundscape and was its own thing.

Based on the score, it seems Rogue Nation is very similar to Ghost Protocol, which is not to my liking. I thought the fourth film was the worst of the series with an absolutely abysmal script and villain with far too much comedy. I won't be seeing this until the 10th at the earliest anyways, but hopefully this film will surprise like Edge of Tomorrow did.

After listening to the score, well I am glad at what Joe Kramer brought to the table. Its more in line with his score on Jack Reacher and I like it. Nowadays I would take any score that has no Zimmer label in it if we are to talk about generic things because right now to me that's synonymous with RCP. I surely cant make any conclusion base only on the score so this merits an actual viewing.

Hans Zimmer's MI:2 score is abysmal... absolute shite... thank god there's still composers like Joe Kraemer ans directors that appreciate good film music

Thanks for the great share!

I really hope this is the break Kraemer needs because he should be getting more jobs in Hollywood then he has been. We thought he had burst onto the scene with The Way of the Gun, then again with Jack Reacher but, for whatever reason, things didn't pan out. Hopefully the third time is a charm and not a strikeout, we need more Kraemer in the scoring world! (Yes, I know this isn't really his 3rd score but, probably his 3rd mainstream movie score.)

Short Version Review: Rogue Nation is similar in execution to Ghost Protocol: it's good, in spots very good, but not great. Rebecca Ferguson as new team member IIsa Faust (a Brit with a very Germanic name) brings a balletic style to the action scenes and handles herself well in the lulls between the action. And the action set piece staged in the Vienna Opera is probably the best in the movie. The rest of the team is their usual selves, no one really stretched their acting muscles on this movie.

As for the claims of Rogue Nation being "better than Bourne or Bond," bollocks. Bourne and the Craig Bond films focused, wisely I think, on the agents whereas Mission Impossible has focused, in the two most recent films, on the agency. All of the Bourne films centered on Jason discovering his identity and with Bond the questions posed and answered were "are human operatives still necessary in the digital age?" and "is Bond still up to the task?"

The modus operandi of the MI films has become set up an impossible challenge and watch the IMF overcome it. But the way Cruise plays Hunt and the way the films are structured we, the audience, now he will. There's not much dramatic tension present. The fight scenes are well choreographed but there's no feeling of danger or injury in the way there is in Bourne films. Nor is there an action scene shot with the deadly beauty such as the skyscraper fight or the battle on the Scottish moors as in Skyfall. (A feeling of doom hangs over the film that doesn't lift until the very end.)

And while Sean Harris starts out strong as the villain Solomon Lane he diminishes over the course of the film. Also the film never solidifies the threat of a rogue nation of agents. It's never explained how and why all these former agents faked their deaths and jumped over to the dark side. Lane is not a charismatic personality and he never achieves the level of threat that Bardem's Silva attained. Plus the Syndicate's over arching goal is never explained. (Lane's ultimate objective reminds me of Gruber's goal in the first Die Hard.)

For me, the best IMF villains was that of Hoffman's. He wanted to punish Hunt and made the fight personal.

Bottom line: Rogue Nation is a good time at the movies but they are becoming about the stunt work travails Cruise is willing to subject himself to.

P.S. This is the second time the government suspended or decommissioned the IMF. Let's hope there is not a third.

Totally agree with all you said, especially regarding Hoffman's villain in MI3.

BIG thanks to ostgems.

GP and RN have been good action flicks but the series pales for me in comparison to the Bourne and Bond films. For me, this is mostly because of the light and fun tone that the franchise embraced in GP. I might be alone here, but the first MI is still the best for me thanks to the focus on the heist and a sense of urgency regarding Hunt's stakes. I didn't watch the original series so I'm fine with the liberties the makers took in it and Elfman's quirky, at times unfocused, percussive score remains my favorite though Kraemer's masterfully orchestrated and rich sound is really good. GP and RN are standard, efficient but I want to see more focus on the heist and less action. Instead of selling the heist aspect of the series, the selling point is Cruise's stunt of the day. The series found its tone in GP and I think this trend will continue so on from now.

Agreed about the first film still being the best. To me, the series has gotten worse with each successive installment. I suppose I'm one of the few that enjoys the second film (I saw it in theaters when I was 8, so I'm mostly immune to its flaws). I haven't seen RN yet so I can't speak as to its quality, but I didn't enjoy the shift in tone that M:I:III started and that GP bumped up to a whole 'nother level. With the focus now on CGI & comedy (like any other modern blockbuster), the series lost what made it special, which was an emphasis on character and an intricate plot that revolved around a heist.

I also can't stand Simon Pegg's character.

I'm still planning on seeing this early next week, but my hopes are not very high.
