In case you were not aware, James Horner secretly wrote the score for Antoine Fuqua's 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven! What amazing news! I am ecstatic and emotional right now. I only hope that they give it to someone trustworthy to interpret and fit to the picture. I think David Newman would be a prime candidate since he conducted the Vienna concert. Otherwise, I would choose Joel McNeely or John Debney.

Again, I'm thrilled to hear that we will be able to partake of at least one more glorious, orchestral Horner score and I wanted to make sure I shared this information. :-)

The original score was/is a classic masterpiece in itself...
I'm not sure I for one would wish to follow in Elmer Bernstein's footsteps
but I'm pretty sure James was up to the task and only too keen by all accounts to score this classic movie.

I look forward to hearing it hopefully sometime in the near future.

Thank you James.

I knew that there was another score coming out composed by him. I knew I read this somewhere, this is awesome to finally clear the air for myself though. Awesome news indeed.

But, this thread should possibly be moved to General Discussion.

*IF* Horner's material will even make it into the film. And no, I did not read the article. Yet.

According to James Cameron, Horner did the score of a student film. And the Collider article says he scored Southpaw for free, and the musicians were payed with money straight from Horner's pocket.

We'll be getting his score to "The 33" a bit later this year. He also wrote the music to a documentary about flying but there's no release date for that one yet.

The 33 was scored before Southpaw.
