ABOUT THE DC RESTORATION SERIES
The DC Restoration Series is a series of scores that have been personally restored by me. This is the culmination of many months of research to find an audio restoration process to help decrease the dynamic range of the music by making the quiet parts louder without making the louder parts even louder.

Some people will disagree with my technique but I find the listening experience to be better since I can now hear the nuances of the orchestra to a greater degree. I watch the spectral frequency display while listening to each track in hopes to clean up all artifacts and remove as much hiss as possible. I've also EQed everything to add clarity to the music.

I can go on and on about process, but in the end, it is the final product that counts.

=========================================
IDEAL WAY TO LISTEN TO THIS "REMASTERED" SERIES
For optimal listening enjoyment, listen with a flat EQ or minimal adjustments so that the higher frequencies aren't too crisp. This series of "remastered" works have been restored using flat-sounding studio monitors for optimal EQing and mastering.

OK. I will change this one to PM. Sorry...

that's why i never finished or maintained my Horner mega thread way back when. So many albums turned out to be either FSM or Varese it became like a "pm me" thread and felt pointless. I wanted an easy to access data base and with the no share rules that just was not feasable. :notgood:

I wonder as I continue with this project, if I will fall in the same pitfall. People have tried to help me out with ways around this and this was the best solution. I guess it wasn't. I'm thinking I might have to just go back to PM and cross my fingers I can manage the requests. I wish we can get more than 300 PM messages in our Inbox. It would certainly help.

Could You Not Have Them Post In The Said Thread And Then You PM Them, Just Say
"Please Post In The Thread For A Link, Don't PM" Or Something Along Those Lines...

Ok. I thought of that too. What do you think is the quickest way to reply to all the requests when they post their demands within the thread? One by one? Can I group them? Dumb question but I never attempted to do it this way.

okay... so what are these dc-restorations actually? so far folks who did some sort tweaking on album gave detailed information on what was done to each album. sonicadventure or jhfan go on great detail regarding this. this information is here clearly missing.

Also would appreciate greater clarification on the method and intent for "remastering" releases that already sound great.

It is understandable with a release where things maybe really out of balance or the presence of a lot undesired noise.

No problem. I have this info on other restorations I did but thought it was too much blah blah and people really didn't care. I guess I was wrong. I will include this on all the posts. I certainly don't go into great detail of each thing I tweak but a broad idea. If that's not enough for most than sorry. I don't have that much time to sit and write a detailed report on my process. I always thought the end result speaks for itself but maybe not for some.

This project is such a subjective one. If you believe some of the albums released by Horner are perfect, then please do not download my versions. I truly do not need to explain myself on why I am doing this. I enjoy listening to this type of music and find the dynamic range to be too wide for listening purposes. I try to correct this "MY WAY" and share this ideology with others that can hear and enjoy the difference. Certainly there will be some or many that disagree with this and that is absolutely fine. All I can say is this: Don't like it... Don't download it! Your choice.

You Can Only Send A Maximum Of 5 PM at One Time (In A Group) Unfortunatly. Otherwise It Would Of Been Easier to Do All the Albums on One Thread. And Send A Folder Link To People Containing All the Albums. That Way People Just Download the Ones they Want.

Tried that and was told I couldn't do that by (I believe) a moderator. So back to PM I go for now until I find another solution...

dconline, so you're pretty much normalize the audio?

as for the pm "problem" - unless the certain labels get lifted from the 'no open share' policy, you will be stuck sending pms.
you only have two options: let the user send you a pm with their interest or let them post in the thread and you send them a pm.

Very interesting result here. The detail is enhanced and it's easier to distinguish individual instruments but the bass is just a tad "boomy" for my taste. It's interesting to compare all the different releases of this score. Overall I think you did a great job with the material you had.

I normalize to -0.1 db only at the end. I do not compress the sound but rather expand the quiet parts without messing with the louder ones. Initially I was trying compression and found the louder sounds were getting muffled and distorted. Then I tried expansion and found way better results all around. Then I EQ and do hiss removal since when you expand quiet parts, one of the results is hiss.

Look, this is easy. DL it, and listen to it. If you dislike it, simply delete it and move on. Easy peasy. I myself am mostly satisfied with the commercial releases and JH and Sonic's work. But to each their own, and listening style is personal. no biggie.....

Dconline, I am not a mod, I was just noting that the thread would attract one, and wanted to save you the headache and time. If in doubt contact Jessie or sparktank who are mods and would have a better understanding of what they will want. Links like this have been nuked before, but who knows.

The Battle Beyond the stars is in poor-ish shape. 3 takes on most tracks.1 sounds great and is likely lifted from the official album. The unreleased stuff is good to hear but in desperate need of help, and is only an mp3.
