Hey, what are some good Christmas or holiday themed songs that you people know of? I mean good songs, not the same old boring carols or 'jingle bells' or whatever.

For example, Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight) by The Ramones. You know, more modern stuff.

I don't think my december counts as a christmass song.

Not really relevant but I now want to hear the severe beating of a high school janitor, and spanish teacher.

As for my favorite christmass song, I don't know it's name, but it's in the home alone movie.

I believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake, as the lyrics own:

They said therell be snow at christmas
They said therell be peace on earth
But instead it just kept on raining
A veil of tears for the virgins birth
I remember one christmas morning
A winters light and a distant choir
And the peal of a bell and that christmas tree smell
And their eyes full of tinsel and fire

They sold me a dream of christmas
They sold me a silent night
And they told me a fairy story
till I believed in the israelite
And I believed in father christmas
And I looked at the sky with excited eyes
till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise

I wish you a hopeful christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear
They said therell be snow at christmas
They said therell be peace on earth
Hallelujah noel be it heaven or hell
The christmas you get you deserve

Plus, Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie. For the same reason as the one above:

Hey, Mr Churchill comes over here
To say we're doing splendidly,
But it's very cold out here in the snow
Marching to and from the enemy,
Oh I say it's tough, I have had enough,
Can you stop the Cavalry?

I have had to fight almost every night
Down throughout these centuries,
That is when I say, oh yes, yet again,
Can you stop the Cavalry?

Mary Bradley waits at home,
In the nuclear fall-out zone,
Wish I could be dancing now
In the arms of the girl I love.

Dubadum...etc
Wish I was at home for Christmas.

Bang! goes another bomb,
On another town
While the czar and jim have tea.
If I get home,
Live to tell the tale,
I'll run for all presidencies,
If I get elected I'll stop, I will stop the Cavalry.

Dumadum...etc
Wish I was at home for Christmas
Wish I could be dancing now
In the arms of the girl I love,
Mary Bradley waits at home,
She's been home waiting two years long,
Wish I was at home for Christmas.........

I dunno if this can be considered a Christmas song, but it's often played during this time of year...

Ave Maria

It's not "modern" but I like it.

I just remembered another great one - The Fairytale of New York, by The Pogues.

Other than that, this thread is displeasing me with it's lack of modern Christmas songs. Surely it should be a more popular topic for songwriters!

"Who put the stump in my rump?" or something like that. I forgot who it was buy. But it's a very funny song about an angel singing about the agony she goes through every Christmas year when she is put on top of the Christmas tree. It's very amusing...

Its got two versions. the first is Who put the stump? and the second is stumpmaster remix. Both are by Bob Rivers and on the "Chipmunks roasting on an open fire" album.

Don't care if it's 5 years old. Try not to bump anymore, Ace, but I'll bite on this one.

"Fairytale of New York (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv0hlbWpa1w)" by The Pogues is pretty much a definitive chrismas classic. Always gets me on that holiday mood.

"You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot. Happy Christmas your arse, I pray God it's our last."
