Now that our beloved composer is now part of eywa
I was wondering who would succeed him for Avatar.

Do you have any ideas?
I was thinking that james newton howard might pursue the work done.

JNH would be an excellent choice.

Perhaps Giacchino. But he's not really in the same ballpark as Cameron's vision.

If Cameron wants to stick to more traditional scores, he'll go for someone like JNH.
If he wants to appeal to newer generations, he'll go for someone like MG.

I doubt someone like Brian Tyler or Junkie XL.

Howard Shore would be a nice catch.
If he doesn't end up using the same studio that SonicAdventure has on his dart board.

i was thinking about this last night and immediately jnh came to mind so I agree with sparky there. jnh would be perfect. He has a similar beautiful tone of scoring to horner than anyone else.
I don't think MG could reach the spirit more than jnh could. MG would fit more towards the JW style and would be a perfect step in if anything happened to willians (god forbid) over the next few star wars films

Maybe Jim goes with someone fresh, fairly new to the OST scene... someone like Steven Price did an excellent job on Gravity, why not pick him? We all know Jim likes that 'organic/industrial' sound to his movies. Oh wait, let's bring back Brad!!

This was the first thing I thought when I read the terrible news. I can't imagine how James Cameron feels. Probably like he lost a brother. Aside from T1\T2, Horner scored every single one of his films, correct? I don't even want to think about it. The fact the we'll never have another Horner score ever again - especially Avatar - breaks my heart.

Alan Silvestri scored The Abyss. Can't remember it was any good. Brad did True Lies/T1/T2/T3D, all the rest was Horner.

That's right. I knew about The Abyss and Fiedel also doing True Lies in addition to Terminitor. The rest are Horner. Which is a lot.

Giacchino did a close Hornerism on Tomorrowland...

Horner scored Aliens, Titanic and Avatar (for Cameron). For me the work he did with Cameron was some of the most creative writing in Horner's career.

Marco Beltrami.

i could live with beltrami or newton howard.
Isham maybe? Or Amar?

i would not listen to avatar by giacchino, elfman or silvestri, not because they are not good, i just do not like their music.

Alan Silvestri is not good?

Elfman would not be a good choice nor would Giacchino for these purposes.

+1 say no to Elfman.

He doesn't have the patience to stick around for all the movies.
His half-handed work is just half decent.

Silvestri seems to fit better with action, like he's been doing.

Marco Beltrami would be my guess. Or Alexandre Desplat.

As long as they don't hire that ass clown Hans Zimmer and his mob, I'm fine. ;)

I would love for Cameron to work with Silvestri again. The Abyss is one of my most cherished scores.

I might remind you that 'ass-clown' wrote The Lion King, one of the best-known and best-loved animated scores. I'm told Interstellar is pretty decent too (I haven't got the movie and I haven't gotten round to listening to the album).

Beltrami? No way jos. For me, I'd rule out Zimmer, Beltrami, Burwell, Jablonsky, Reznor/Ross (that would just be horrific) and many others. Maybe James Newton Howard. Idk.

And cearly you know Zimmer well enough to call him an ass clown, right? I wish I knew him as well as you.

I don't imagine Hans Zimmer being an "ass-clown" but unless you know home in person... :p

I could easily see James Newton Howard. His work reminds me a lot of Horner's. Michael Giacchino is great but his style isn't typically what I'd imagine for something like Avatar which has a soundtrack with a very classic style. Michael is more suited to those movies like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or Jurassic World where the music should be gritty and energetic as well as detailed.

James Newton Howard! he deserves it
in second choice, Alan Silvestri
