DANCING ON SUNDAY was released and advertised in 1961 by United Artists Records as a sequel to their platinum selling soundtrack album from Jules Dassin's popular international film hit, NEVER ON SUNDAY ("Pote tin Kyriaki"), which introduced Hellas' National Treasure, the fabulous Melina Mercouri, already a star in Greece, to the rest of what proved to be an adoring world. The title song from the film won the Academy Award for "Best Song" in 1960 for Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis and he put together this album of Greek dance music by himself and other popular Greek composers, all arranged in the style of the original music he composed for NEVER ON SUNDAY. This 24 bit remaster of DANCING ON SUNDAY is derived from a 4 track reel to reel tape of the United Artists album and I have expanded it to CD length with additional Greek dance music medleys by Hadjidakis, Theodorakis & other Greek composers. Hadjidakis' arrangements of his own and other Greek dances in this collection are pure magic and, as I have already said about this composer, offer further celebration of what it means to be Greek.
