Sonic Youth started life in the early 80's, and becoming more or less the main force behind any alternative rock, they could be as musically confusing as the Velvet Underground and as loud as the Who. In any sense, they should haven't have become succesful, but thankfully they did. So, what does Sonic Youth mean to you?....Please discuss.

I could never get into them. Most of the stuff I've heard on the radio, or TV or whatever doesn't appeal madly...they're too busy being all artish and experimentally to appeal I think. Then again, they've got a big catalogue so there's probably something good there. Just never really held my attention.

I see what you mean, well for some cool alt. rock songs by them try stuff like 'Teenage Riot' or '100%,' or try some stuff of their 'Dirty' album, thats quite....what people would say....'grungey.'

One of my favorite bands, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, is sometimes said to have been influenced by Sonic Youth, so I figure they're pretty cool. I don't think I've heard anything of theirs except "Runaway Train" or whatever, though.
