I'm very very disappointed about the choice of composer for Jurassic World, that guy don't have any talent, so yesterday I gave myself my own Jurassic World! I watched the 3 movies on Blu-Ray and listened my CD's.

These are the real thing, Spectacular Scores all three of them.

All included.

Enjoy!

Especially after actually listening to the soundtrack, he brought a new life to the franchise.

Hola.

About the new composer, I don't know either why they chose him, I've heard the main theme taken from John Williams theme, and it sounds like a lower version of the original one by JW.

So I've heard the Jurassic World soundtrack, and I saw the film. As expected, it was a fantastic score with great callbacks to Williams' original work. Don't understand the haters...

Don't understand people who use kinda-mindless groupthink words like "haters" ...

I saw Jurassic World a few days back, and while I've heard other Giacchino scores I really enjoyed, I felt the J. World score was rather drab and undistinguished. The only times it really came alive were when it was referencing Williams' themes. And yet, in the final shot, which was absolutely crying out for Williams' main theme, it didn't go there. (Mind you, the film itself was pretty drab overall. It absolutely had me for the first 40 minutes or so, and then it simply fell apart.)

And no, I'm not a "hater".

Why would you think this was aimed at you in the first place? The OP was disappointed at Giacchino being chosen to score JW. Unless you're erich.gold's second account, you've nothing to get defensive about.
And it is completely within my own right to use the word 'haters', even if it annoys others. But to throw you a bone (pun intended) I'll elaborate and say that I don't understand people that won't even think twice about giving anyone the benefit of the doubt. The score hadn't been released around the time of the first post so there was no reason to be disappointed. There are certain composers I have difficulty warming up to, but if they happen to score a film I want to see, I'll definitely give them the benefit of the doubt. And if they prove me wrong, all the better. I'm not saying everything Giacchino touches is pure gold, but his most recent works have been splendid throughout and, in general, I'm a fan of his work. On the other end of the scale, Steve Jablonsky is frowned upon by most, at the very least by myself, but he has shown that some cues in his Transformers work show promise, and his Pain and Gain score was a definite step up and is very good all round.

About Jurassic World, I was also expecting the original JP Williams theme to be referenced in the final scene, and I too was surprised/disappointed about that missed opportunity. The film was hardly a drab, especially if you consider the two lackluster predecessors. The Lost Word was enjoyable but had a few annoying characters, while JP3 was a mess throughout (except maybe the dinosaurs themselves).

I didn't. I don't.

Well, if you're going to go down that path, then it's also my "right" -- or anyone else's -- to point out what an inane word it is, and how it springs from incredibly shallow thinking. But of course, use it all you want.

Yeah but mate, *your* opinion of Giacchino's work isn't a benchmark for everyone else to abide by. You like his work, and you're absolutely allowed to (of course); others don't, and that's their "right" as well. Me, as I said I've liked things he's done, but I do tend to think of his music as working well for contained, low-kinetics kinds of films, so I can understand someone being disappointed that he was announced as scoring a tent-pole actioner like Jurassic World, especially when the previous two-and-a-third were by someone as dynamic as John Williams. That's a lot to live up to. On first blush, it doesn't seem like a good fit, and does make you wonder how it is the producer/director see their film, given my (and apparently Erich's) perception of Giacchino's suitability. As it turned out (and I am only speaking for myself here), I'm still not sure he was a good fit, because I didn't much enjoy the score.

About Jurassic World, I was also expecting the original JP Williams theme to be referenced in the final scene, and I too was surprised/disappointed about that missed opportunity.
Especially given which animal it was in the final shot, and the fact that they're now apparently planning to make this new round of Jurassic flicks at least another trilogy, then yeah, I think Williams' theme would have been very appropriate to kinda stake the claim of the ground we were on (again).

The film was hardly a drab, especially if you consider the two lackluster predecessors. The Lost Word was enjoyable but had a few annoying characters, while JP3 was a mess throughout (except maybe the dinosaurs themselves).
Haha, now I *really* want to say "I don't understand the hate for JP3." ;) I personally think it's a better film than TLW, and I really don't agree it was a mess. I liked the fact that it had a through narrative, and wasn't just a set of themed set-pieces, as Spielberg's films tend to become.

But why I say JW was drab is because it made it clear in the first half-hour that it was going the narrative route, but then it kept dropping threads and having clumsy linkages and segues and just didn't knit together. The pacing was off, and to me it read like several sequences had been excised whole-cloth in the final cut, and the bits either side of the cuts didn't quite marry up. In the end it had neither strong set-pieces (except for an already-infamous one, involving a certain character and the pteranodons, which I found crass and unpleasant) nor a strong narrative line, and I found that -- as with most films that try to sustain momentum through being merely frenetic -- I actually got bored. I found myself just not caring what happened to any of the characters, until I got seriously annoyed that, after strongly establishing several times that these creatures were animals, without self-awareness, and driven solely by instinct, the film then had a resolution that relied solely on the complete opposite. Was that supposed to be a pleasant surprise for the audience? It was rubbish.

So, to bring it back to topic: Giacchino's score didn't do much for me, and neither did the film. And I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me, or people of similar opinion, but "hater" is really such a lackbrain term, that conveys no substance of thought or opinion. That's not a shot at you personally, Dave999, since (I'm assuming!) you didn't invent it. ;)

Strong post Branais. Jurassic Park 3 had a strong story and great dinosaurs, but you've already lost me completely if you have Tea Leoni in one of the lead roles, being as awful as she always is. William H. Macy was on top of that a lot weaker than we're used to. The final straw for me, was when we were introduced to a kid who (completely unrealistically) managed to survive on an island infested with dinosaurs for two weeks thanks to some iffy camouflage and (worst of all) having collected T-Rex pee (???). The Lost World on the other hand had Jeff Goldblum, whose popular Malcolm character returned, and great action scenes (the Raptors in the tall grass). His kid who hid on the camper was annoying too, but JP3's characters were overkill when combined.

Jurassic World was the first film where I felt the younglings didn't do too many stupid things to get them into certain situations (plot device) or annoy the audience. Masrani was constantly contradicting himself and changed characteristics whenever the situation required him to, but I wouldn't say that the film was a bore. It was a stretch to see those two kids not only fix a car, but drive it as/so well (the kid failed his practical).

There were flaws, definitely, but they didn't detract from the experience (too much) in my opinion. The infrared, the tracker, the bullfrog camouflage, ... they were all ridiculous, but it wasn't too distracting.

Branais
07-01-2015, 04:41 PM
Mate, I didn't say that the film was "a bore"; I said I was bored. I get bored when a film gets loud and frenetic, apparently to cover a lack of substance, and that's what I saw as happening in Jurassic World. You're welcome to disagree, but it's a genuine response with genuine reasons.

I'm not expecting anyone else to adopt my point of view whole-cloth -- either about the film, or about Giacchino's score. Nonetheless, it *is* my point of view.
