ROBERTA is arguably Jerome Kern's most sophisticated score, second only to SHOW BOAT in popularity and this early 1950s performance is my favourite recording of ROBERTA. Although this studio recording, derived from Gordon MacRae's "Railroad Hour" radio series, does not use the original stage orchestrations, the lush arrangements and conducting by George Greeley compliment the songs beautifully and nobody sings them better than the unbeatable combination of Gordon MacRae and Lucille Norman, plus the fabulous Anne Triola. This file was mastered by me using my professional editing processes from a fairly pristine LP source with lively pre-stereo high fidelity sound that is still astonishing to hear and enjoy.
