Frankly, I don't give a damn about Tron or Tron: Legacy. Thought the first was a missed opportunity replete with stilted dialogue, wooden performances and sub-standard score. The second was a neon colored snore fest and its only redeeming aspect was Daft Punk's incredible music.

However, the film has many fans on this forum and in acknowledgment of that here is a link aimed at changing the mind of corporation Disney.

Good luck with that.

I really love the first one. It set the bar.
The second one was really fun for me. The huge difference.

It's funny to see so many new generations not know anything about it.

40K supporters so far.
9.x thousand more needed to hand the petition over.
I'll sign it later. But I doubt it will do anything.

Petitions don't have a huge history of success.
I think the one about North America trying to get the Japanese release of the Godzilla rumble game succeeded.
That one I signed.
But a lot of wishful thinkers out there.

40K. Probably the number of people who will go see it in theaters if they make it.
And then lose out on North American box office capital, regardless of international sales tickets.

As long as Daft Punk isn't involved so we can get an isolated score, I'm all aboard.

And if it doesn't happen, I really hope Kosinski gets working on that Black Hole remake.
Team up with that science dude who worked on Interstellar mathematics of worm holes, black holes and plot holes.

On a related note, Olivia Wilde is happy about the cancellation.
Apparently she had to starve herself for the tight-fitting role?

I didn't think much of Legacy, however, given that most sci-fi movies these days are heavy with cgi, it seems odd that there's any objection to a third Tron. Film producers need a good dunking. In urine.

So true.
I know Legacy came out when everyone was aboard the hypetrain for 3D films.
Every director had to fight tooth and nail for their 2D movies to NOT be converted to 3D.

Even today, movies filmed with *some* scenes in 3D, most of it is filmed in 2D.

Although the conversion process is getting better, I really think IMAX should extend their services to help in transferring the 3D movies to bluray with their powerful post-processing technology.

But because they did it all wrong in the first place trying to break through with the 3D hypetrain, consumers lost interest so the studios don't have interest now in major products like this.

I think it comes down to the studios.
Disney should be banking on this.

Legend has picked up more Godzilla films and more Pacific Rim films.
All 3 films go under heavy criticism. Yet one studio still brings more movies.

I'm all aboard the Legend hypetrain. :awsm:

Now you mention it, I've noticed almost a complete absence of 3d televisions in the stores. There may be one or two units available, but not prominently sold like they were a few years ago when they were racked and stacked in my local shops with glasses and all that gear. The 'thing' now appears to be Ultra HD. Which imo is a sensible progression. That would tie in nicely with IMAX material.

Almost all TVs are 3D capable, well, here in Australia they are, but they just don't use it as a selling point anymore.

Even Sony have turned their back on 3D.

I loved Legacy, and Daft Punk's score. Would like to see another movie :)

I really enjoyed Tron Legacy, especcially all of the technical side of the film: score, art direction, visual effects, cinematography, sound effects.
The characters and acting were weak, but the plot was somewhat involving to me.

I don't really understand why Disney cancelled the movie, it was to promising, considering how Legacy ended.
The director, Joseph Kosinski make a new movie, improving his visual talent, also he said that Daft Punk would be surely involved for the sequel.
The writers created a great tv show.
DOP Claudio Miranda won another Oscar.
The set designer made The Force Awakens.
Disney has a million tons of money, they don't really care if one of its movie won't be critical acclaimed.

I think they're focusing on franchises now.

If they can make Tron into a Marvel-based cinematic arc, they would keep it going.
They just need to try write up a continuity spin-off for Renzler and create so many more characters to give that Avengers feel.

I don't think they're going to be doing The Black Hole remake any time soon.
Interstellar is pretty much all we need at this point in time. I don't see Disney going out of their way compete against that.
Not unless they make it a CG movie for kiddies.
Or a family movie based on true events about undiscovered sports talents and unsung heroes of coaches.

Disney seems to have developed a very significant formula in the past 5 years.
